Question on Music and Civ Themes

Hey everyone! So I’m playing a game currently as Rome, and I noticed that the music seems to be switching back and forth between the Zulu theme and what I believe to be the Chinese theme. I’m in the Renaissance era I believe, so I’ve had some time to really listen. Is there any rhyme or reason to what music the game plays? It may help to know the Zulu were the first Civ that I conquered and I currently have an alliance with the Chinese. Or does the game cycle through everyone’s theme and I’m not noticing. I LOVE the Zulu theme, it’s by far my favorite, so if there’s some way I can trick the game into playing their theme without actually playing them, that would be great. Haha

Not sure there's rhyme or reason to be honest. I do feel like Civ VI's music implementation is not ideal since you end up cycling between other civs' themes a lot rather than getting to listen to your own civ's ambient music again (which seems restricted to the Ancient and medieval ages).

It seems to switch randomly between your theme, your ambient themes, other civs' themes, and other civs' ambient themes, with the only time a theme is guaranteed to play (outside the diplomacy screen) being at the start of a new era, when your theme plays.

I have also noticed the music rarely changes to your own tune. Usually I end up listening to my neighbours' themes, which I hate (russian, korean, indian, dutch themes). Too bad I cannot pick what to ignore.

Yes, and unfortunately, even killing those enemies won't change the music. I have to say the only civ theme I really find dull is the Dutch theme.

Dutch theme is pretty; it's just not very well suited for the Netherlands.

I don't think it's pretty so much as dull and weirdly grim in parts. I agree it doesn't seem well suited for the Netherlands. Maybe someone could ask Geoff Knorr why he chose it?

If anyone knows how to affect what music is playing I'd love to know. Sometimes, especially later in the game, it seems to get stuck on the same thing for a long time.

I don't think Geoff Knorr chose it. Roland Rizzo composed the themes for the Netherlands. This isn't the first time he chose a relatively obscure piece to represent a European Civ (Poland was the first).

I've noticed that sometimes a theme will get near the end, freeze, and start over again; it's very annoying. :(
