Hello everyone,

I am going to go ahead and make an ass of myself but I would really like it if someone helped me out. I am trying to play the mod under the Steam version of Beyond the Sword (3.19), I downloaded the mod but when I place it into the mod section of BtS it does not work (it does not show in the mod section in the game)
Now I:
- downloaded the latest version (should be v34 but I can recheck if you need) through the links in the first post here (unzipped file has a size of 3 667 931 642b)
- looked inside the FAQ, looked around the forum but I can't find any similar question asked
- I know there is a SVN version but that one shouls be mainly for modders, correct? The V34 is what I should go with?

Also sorry for creating a separate topic but there is a method to the madness. If there was such a question asked before I can delete this thread and if not, at least it will be separate/stickied. Second - I will make a video on Youtube about how to install this because I am obviously not the only one searching for help there (but to no avail).

Thank in advance for all help and sorry to be such a newbie. I feel like I am just missing something really simple...

mod should be unpacked to mods folder under Beyond the sword folder

so path should be something like : steam\civilization 4 complete\beyond the sword\mods
here you create folder named caveman2cosmos and unpack files to hat folder

only in this way game will see mod

That is exactly what I did (and what was the first step I took) but the game does not list the mod. The mod is located in:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos

I don't really understand why not.

what files in mod folder? can do file list and post it here?

Check it isn't ...\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos\Caveman2Cosmos. If it is then move it up one folder. There should be an assets folder in the Caveman2Cosmos folder.

Guys, sorry to bother you with this, I got it working now.

For all of you who tried to help me, thank you very much and let's together laugh on where the problem was (Steam). So what was it? Well I was checking the mod files for some error when I noticed that there are only 4 mods in the folder (+C2C). It seemed weird as when I tried to play the mod I had like 10 or 12 there. So I started checking the folders of BTS itself and couldn't believe my eyes. Steam (WTH??) create another BTS folder inside the installation folder (insert inception joke here). I have no idea how or why but files seem to not be duplicated and both game and mod works fine. Might be some glitch during the install but the correct folder to put it into for me is as follows:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos

I have no words :D

BTW the first BTS is not a dummy folder. It has assets, BTS, CvGameCoreDLL, Miles, Mods, PublicMaps and other folders + files in it. That is why I didn't see the second BTS folder at first.

That first folder is really Vanilla CivIV. Steam's stupid though and as you bought teh BTS version it places Vanilla CIV in a folder named to \Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\ while BTS actually is placed inside the Vanilla folder, as it is and should be as BTS is an extension/mod to vanilla.

I don't use Steam. This is just one of oh so many silly, stupid, lack of respect, tricking to pay for free things, and more. I boycott them.

Cheers

Thanks for the explanation. Well I usually don't see so much stupidity on the side of Steam so I wasn't expecting that hence my desparation.

Hello everyone, i'm here for asking an quick question.

I have, recently, buy the Steam version of the game and installed C2C (since the cd version seem to not work anymore), and placed C2C in the right folder. Until that point, all was good.
But when I load an saved game (that I have saved from my old laptop before it died), I can't view the religion that the AI have adopted, showed next to their civilization name.

I sayed to myself: «No problem, all I have to do is to download the mod again and replace it in the right place»....But I still receiving message that I don't have the administrator right (which was wrong, since I have my new laptop, since a week) to erase it from the mod folder located in Steam. Which was weird, since I am being able to place it in the folder, in the first place. So, anyone know what I am supposed to do for being able to replace it?

I started getting weird errors trying to play C2C through Steam. Luckily I still had my CD version so I went back to that. BTW Dr. Elephant, there is a fix for not seeing the religion symbols next to the next to Civ names. I think it has to do with using a beta version of the game? I apologize, I'm at work and can't look too deeply. The other issue is probably more involved. I've had so many issues getting C2C run. Nothing with the mod. For me, my computer would somehow just "forget" where things were installed and had to set up all my shorcuts again. Then Steam decided it didn't like ANY CIV 4 mods.

I've just read this again and it seems to me you need to enable yourself to take all actions on your system as if you are always the administrator. This is not as secure but it certainly is a lot less a pain in the ass. Good luck tho... let us know how it goes from here.
