Is it possible to hurry the production of units or buildings? Is it possible to buy production like in the old civs?

Yes, but only under special civics:

1) "pop rushing": only with the Slavery civic, available with Bronze Working
2) "gold rushing": only with the Universal Suffrage civic, available with Democracy

The icons for rushing are bottom of the city screen, just right of center, along with the buttons for emphasizing food or production, etc.
