Questions About Alt-X and Documentation

I have Civ IV patched to 3.17. I have BAT Mod 1.1, build 9. I have it set up to auto-load.

I tried searching for these basic questions, but alas without success.

1) My help file for the BAT won't come up. So I have no documentation on what's what in this Mod. Can I get the help file or a 'manual' anywhere?

2) What is the number that appears on the bottom right next to my score and other AI scores? Colored number, I think Green or Red with a plus or minus sign.

3) I see people talking about using Alt-X to dot-map. When I push Alt-X and CTRL-X, nothing changes or happens that I can see. And I believe I'm supposed to be able to edit the map at that point, but how?

Can't help, don't use it myself.

Your (and the others players') change in score since the last turn.

You said you only have BAT installed. You need BUG installed to see the ALT+X strategy layer. I believe you'll also need it turned on in the BUG options screen (CTRL+ALT+O where O is the letter, not zero). See this post for more information on what this looks like.

ALT+X brings up a big fat cross overlay that you can place around the map while planning out your cities. Very handy.

I thought BAT included BUG. I've read that in multiple places on their site and in this forum. My options screen when I hit CTRL-ALT-O even says BUG mod.

BAT 1.1 includes an older version of BUG, most likely before we added the Strategy Layer a.k.a. Dot Mapping Tool. You can upgrade your BTS to 3.19 and then install a newer version of BAT.

Note that the latest 4.2 release of BAT has serious graphics issues and should either be avoided or downgraded to VD 7.5 after installation. See the instructions by Lemon Merchant in the "BAT Graphics Issues" thread. We will be releasing a fixed version soon.

Your other option is to download the ZIP version of BUG and copy its files into your current BAT folder. BUG works with BTS all the way back to 3.13. BTW, that it says "BUG Mod" instead of "BAT Mod" leads me to suspect that you have already done this with a previous version. This would explain why your help file isn't working since it's looking for "BUG" instead of "BAT". You can find the help file in BAT's folder--it has a 'chm" file extension.

What is the version number displayed on the BUG options screen where it says "BUG Mod"?

Went ahead and updated to latest patch and got BAT 2, I'm good to go and thanks.

I was hesitating to update because I like to play mods and sometimes they don't work with BUG/BAT. But I am having so much trouble just winning vanilla games that I decided to just take the easy answer.

Mod typically don't play nice when BUG is installed single player (in customassets). You have two options ...

1) Edit the mod ini file and tell it to ignore any files in customassets (you will also lose blue marble)
2) create multiple customassets (one with BUG and blue marble, one with blue marble) and physically rename them when you want to play a mod (or look for my customasset switcher in the downloads section :))
