Questions about The BUG Mod

K so the solution for my problem is a better pc. Makes sense, especially because I use that mod to play Earth 34 and a version of GEM. Either way, I can't make bug work with the 40civs mod so I'd still like to have a 50civs BULL. I've downloaded the BUG/Better AI but still haven't installed it.

How much RAM do you have? LM is correct that a 40 civ DLL will require more RAM as you progress into the later game.

I currently have only 2. I'm thinking of getting 6 more, but there was some guy who told me that I'd have to upgrade to a 64bit OS (Windows 7) to be able to run all that so I still haven't bought more. I don't mind running it slowly, that's something I know I'm getting into. I'd just like not to have the annoying crashes to desktop that I started to get, but I'm beginning to think that's something I'll have to live with. I've already set my autosaves to save every other turn so I can get back to a close place to where I was.

Still, I installed the BUG/Better AI and renamed the dll, but I would rather have something closer to the original game, such as BUG or BULL only. Not that I'm complaining about the Better AI, it's just that I already go down to emperor in the GEM or in the Earth 34 (unless in Europe in the latter) and I refuse to still go down another level because the AI suddenly got too smart. Anyway, I still have to actually play a game with Better AI to see how it goes before I start being a cry-baby.

But a clean BULL 50 civs dll wouldn't hurt...

To use 8 GB of RAM, you will have to move to a 64 bit OS. Having anything more than 3 GB is a waste unless you use x64. You can still expect occasional MAF errors on larger maps with a large amount of civs in the late game, no matter how much memory you have.

people that keep changing their avatar should be banned. Who is the casual glancer meant to know who is saying what?

just pick one angry, tough chic and be done with it.

Or a photo of a Dutch Unique Building.

Come on, Ruff, you know women, they just have to keep changing things: hairstyles, shoes, avatars, or in my case, husbands.

PS: Loveya, Lemon. :)

Too much coffee, Ruff? :p

Like this, Brian?

Love it. :D

To stop hijacking Better BUG AI's thread with this.

EF, BUG is awesome and I love it. The reminders, the dot-maps and the little red fists have made it very hard for me to play without it. However, I do think that the build military units forever should be disabled by default. It really makes no sense to leave it on if you're not playing a scenario. Early in the game, each build is thought - I start with a worker, start on a warrior until I can work my specials then switch to a settler, for example. One thing that helps me (and probably others) remember I have to do something new is precisely the pop-up asking what to build. One could argue that you get to see your new unit and are therefore able to do the very same things you would if you got the pop-up, but it is not always true. Let's say I'm building up for an invasion and have set a rally point, I'll only control my new units when they get to their rally point, which could take 3, 4 or more turns. That makes me have to pay MORE attention to the micro part of the game when, the way I understand it, the point of BUG is presenting the interface in a more user friendly way.

I'm sorry if I sound too critical, it is as you said before, people tend to be more verbal about the things they don't like.

@Sidney Magal - Thank you for the feedback. I myself start my games with it off and turn it on when I get into the "Okay, time to destroy the world" mode. ;) When I added the feature, my hope was to be able to ALT + click in the Choose Production popup, but then as Fuyu said I realized that popups do not pass the keyboard modifiers along with the clicks which makes the feature considerably less useful.

I have decided to disable it by default in BUG after reading that thread, especially since most players will start a new game after installing BUG and I agree it's less useful at the start of a new game. I had it on by default before only so that players would notice the feature at all. Most people won't read the changelog or scour the options screen looking for new settings. This is why nearly every option is enabled by default in BUG. Well, that and because 99.99% of the features are so totally freakin' awesome you'd be crazy to disable them. :p

C'est la vie, live and learn. As G.I. Joe says, "Knowing is half the battle!"

Hey guys, been a while. I see you guys kept on improving this, and I gotta say I love you for that - in a non-gay way, that is!

Last week I decided to play Civ4 again after months and months of abstinence brought by problems in life and other issues, and of course I am already very hooked again! :D

Of course, first thing I did was to download BUG and merge with Better AI etc following some great tutorials around here! I don't know how to play without it anymore.

Anyway, I got a silly question that I just can't figure out the answer anymore. I seem to recall very well that once upon a time you guys implemented a function to this mod where by clicking on a civilization using a shortcut your civilization would basically go into 'war' mode, like the AI goes while preparing for war, which would in turn prompt your vassals to start building arms as well. Well, did I dream this function? Haha. It is not even very important anymore, since I alreayd declared war anyway, but if there is indeed tihs function around I'd like to be reminded how it works because my mind just can't let it go!

Thanks in advance, this mod rocks! :goodjob:

You mean the Better AI functionality "toggle War Plan", which is done by clicking on the future target on the scoreboard while holding Shift+Alt. (Clicking with Alt alone would declare war.) You should see a yellow "War" indicating that war plan but I'm not sure if that actually works, I remember looking for the responsible code parts without ever finding it.
I know it works with Better BUG AI though.

(Mouse is hovering over scoreboard, French Empire. Hover text is on the left.)

Oh, it was a betterAI function then?

I knew I saw it somewhere! Haha, well, thanks anyway. I just had to know, I hate when I can almost remember something, but just can't...

And well, I heard it should work when you have vassals. Maybe in my next game it mgiht be useful, since the game in question is over and done with.

EDIT: oo, SIDNEY MAGAL HAHAHA! Você realmente gosta dele? :P

Sorry about the portuguese haha, I just noticed that guy's name now... I am just asking if he really likes Sidney Magal!

Is that exposed to Python? It would be nice to show an icon (single sword?) in the scoreboard's war/peace column for AI(s) you've targeted.

Looks like it is exposed, at least in Better AI

The human can only switch between NO_WARPLAN (-1) and WARPLAN_PREPARING_TOTAL (3).

I seem to have gone and screwed up my domestic advisor and I don't know how to reset it to the default?

Download the original file and replace the one in your UserSettings/CustDomAdv folder. To find your UserSettings folder, look in the Settings tab of the BUG Options screen.

I don't use Mac, but my GF does. She has installed the Mac zip and was able to load the mod. However, when she attempt to play, the sees the map, the units, and absolutely NO UI. What did we do wrong? On her Mac, she has a Documents/Civ4BTS/Mods/BUG Mod 4.4/

Is that the correct location for everything?

Is there something else we may have done wrong? She uses no other mods, this is her first.

What information do you need, I will get it from her for you guys.

OS X 10.5.8 is a good start, eh? =)
