Artis are generally a complete and utter waste of shields in multiplayer. Most big battles only last 1-2 turns making the artis rather useless. Assuming you are not playing against total newbs or have certain map advantages, such as chokepoints. The only time I would actually consider building artis of any kind is if the enemy is sitting on mountains/hills and won't come down. What works great in SP does not necessary work great in MP!

Perhaps they are. I am not that experienced in multi.player.
My comment was made in the light of how bombers are nullified by bringing mobile sams with a stack. When a force has attacked us and tried to take our cities, we could counterattack and pick off their injured attackers with bombers and MA.

But since bombers are now nullified, I was thinking maybe a stack of arty could soften them up before picking them off. Not that I expect us to get many units to kill anyway....but it was just a thought.

Thoughts are always good ;) but when you look at the actual cost you realize that you might aswell get units. In SP the AI never brings full force and you can easily pick him off every turn, but in MP the other players are gonna bring every available unit they have to tip the scale their way, and thus creating a situation where artis do very little in the big picture, as the battle is over before the artis have fired their 2nd shot.

In all this talk to grabbing rubber through an assault on Cattaraugus, I haven't heard the most important aspect of the plan:

Completing Apollos so we can start on a casing!

I understand we need rubber to be able to continue building Mechs and MA (Marines, too?), but what's the point if we don't have a chance to get us close to our victory condition?

I would expect that as soon as they realize we're aiming at Cattaraugus, they'll send a Marine army over to reclaim the city. If we take it, how long are we expecting to hold it?

I reckon we should hold off on this (over?)ambitious plan until we get a response from FREE regarding rubber. I would not get my hopes up in this regard though..it's not like they will let us win. We are sadly not flying under the radar anymore. :(

I'm hearing:

1) Abandon Ohka
2) Pull back to The Tower
3) Rush an airport in The Tower
4) Airlift a set of MA to SCI
5) Move a transport to set up an invasion of Cattauragus
6) Rush nothing else
7) Kill the FREE city on our mainland.

I'm going to set up our western cities to build Marines - not that they will all build them, but if we do lose rubber, we'll have more marines in the pipeline.

As far as I'm concerned, we're not planning on holding Cattaraugus. The plan is to give Saber far too many things to worry about - so that they abandon their attempt to hold Subcommittee Island.

In fact, I'd imagine we'd pillage the city rather than try to hold it for even one turn?

I'm planning on holding it. I dunno how long we'll be able to hold it, mind you, but I do plan on holding it for a while.

They have 3 mechs on the island, so they won't be able to take it right back.

For one thing, FREE will probably set off an assault on SABER soon, so we'll be either out of the war or allied with SABER.

Well, if it's got Rubber, it seems like it would be silly to take the city and NOT try to hold it.... as insurance against losing rubber on SCI.

Yes, if we take Cattaraugus we should try to hold it. Let's turn research back on and start space flight. We should plan on a prebuild for Apollo, too. If we are lucky we can get space flight, complete our Apollo prebuild the following turn and start the casing all after FREE has committed to an attack on SABER.

Might aswell wait a few turns and not pay monopoly tech price on space flight. I expect FREE to be doing space flight atm and we don't have enough cash to go full throttle yet anyway.

I didn't see it in the turnlog - you did take the FREE city right?

I'm also worried that we didn't get to lift more units to SCI. But I guess we'll have a "grace" turn, and can spam airstrips next turn depending on what SABER does.

yes, I took the FREE city :) I even posted a pic of that event.

we got 8 up there, and will have an airport, so if they stay, we can put more there.

Where's the pic?
Sorry - I'm confused... did you miss posting parts of the turn log maybe? Or else I've gone crazy? :crazyeye:

:thanx: - I'm just glad I wasn't losing my mind!

Working on some propaganda now...

Battlelog from Saber:

On The Tower's island:

Ivory pillaged by a modern armor army.
Rubber cratered by 2 battleships and 2 destroyers.

4 destroyers bombard the mech infantry on the southeast mountain - 1
hits, 3 miss.

They didn't find our transport and sink it...

so, I suspect we have 1 or 2 MA armies on the rubber. We have a set of MA on the airfield, along with a worker (so we can recreate the radar tower if we want.

Should we attack the MA armies?
We don't have rubber - I think we should launch an attack on cattaraugus - I can do a recon, see if they've added anyone. If we can bomb the mech into submission, then we can send 1 marine, 1 mech, 1 worker and 3 MA - if not, we might need to send more marines and fewer MA. I think we want a worker to set up an airfield if we don't get the one that is there. Fortunately, I think they railed everything, so it's not all that hard to get.

Obviously, we will run EWS and kill any ships we can :)
