Maybe I asked a question in a wrong way. Trying better now:

If I build Great Wonder - "Theory of evolution" (which is available for building after the Sientific Method) when I am in Modern Age (not in Industrial Age) will I get 2 free techs from Modern Age (I would prefer Space Flight and Superconductor)? I know that it sounds strange, but AI's do not make any competition in a space race - they are one age behind, and I think that maybe it is better to save this wonder for more expensive techs of the Last Age.

Sphynx,
I haven't tried it, but ToE *should* work with modern age techs.
Feel free to take the risk and slap me in the face if I'm wrong here...;)

Sphynx: it will give you any two techs including modern age, the one you are currently researching and then you cna chose one. make sure you have just finished your last research the turn ToE gets completed.

It will ALSO give you ancient techs (i.e. Republic if you jumped that).

I don't have PTW, but I did pre-order Conquests so I need to know if you run the game from the original CD or the expansion pack CD. My original game CD was stolen and I can't get my burned replacement copy to work with my new system running WindowsXP (is this a copy protection issue?). I want to know if I need to buy a whole new copy of civ just to play Conquests when it arrives, or can I play from the Conquests CD.

Play the world works from the play the world disc in the disc drive. I think it checks to make sure vanilla Civ 3 is installed on the computer, but if you have civ3 installed, it seems highly likley that you will be able to play Conquests with just Conquests disc in the disc drive.

Thanks, that's good news.

Contrary to my avatar, I don't want to have to do anything illegal, but I'd hate to have to buy it again just to play Conquests.

In order to get messages like 'The Germans declared war on the Aztecs!', do you have to have an embassy with at least one of the civs involved?

OK, thx!

I'd better establish some embassies then.
I still have to fight it out on my own continent, but in the meantime, I like to know what and when is going on the other side of the ocean.

what does bombard effects, req. support, and HP bonus mean in the editor? How do they effect units?

meltone1:

req. support: do you have to pay 1 gold per turn upkeep fopr the unit (or, does this unit count towards the free units per city you get in despo / monarchy / commie

HP bonus: u can use this to give a bonus to units in later ages for example: a regular unit will then start with the normal (3) HPs PLUS whatever you specify as HP bonus

bombard effect: not sure atm, I would have to look that up

I have a question about domination threshold. This is 66% of the land mass, but how do I know how much land mass there is. On a standard size (100*100) there will be 10000 squares but obviously most of that is sea. My territory is on the histograph screen (1641 last I looked) and this is probably about 50% of land mass.

I have seen references to "staying below the domination threshold" in other threads so some one obviously knows.

Any ideas?
