I've got a Chinese Rider that made a leader. . . I called him First Rider. . . (Not original, I know ;)). He got promoted to Calvary, and is again elite. I'm hoping that he'll spawn another leader, so I can call him my Seventh Cavalry First Rider. . .

Can you imagine a Spearman like that? I wonder if that would fit. . . .

That has actuallly happenned to me. I had a Knight produce the GL Washington so I named him Washington. After I upgraded him to Cavalry he spawned another GL named Sherman. So I was stuck with a unit called Washington-Sherman. He actually got up to elite when I upgraded him to Light Tank(my personal mod Cavalry can upgrade) and I thought he might produce another GL.

Question:

I know that before declaration of war all troops must be removed from enemy's territory , otherwise you get rep hit as a ROP rape .

Now , after I declare war and enter the enemy's territory the SAME turn , will I get rep hit ?

Thanks in advance

To perform a ROP rape you'll need a ROP in the first place :)

I've read on this forum many times you get rep hit when your forces are in enemy territory before declaration of war , no matter wether you have ROP or not .
Of course you can't make ROP rape , when you have no ROP :)

Anyway , thank you , Grille and Shabbaman for clarification

When you declare war w/ troops in enemy territory, I *think* you can call it ROP-rape whether you have signed a ROP or not (well, I call it ROP rape at least).
Sounds silly, but if you have an active ROP but no units in enemy territory (and declare war), you can sign ROPs later.
When you have no ROP in place but declare war w/ units in enemy territory, you cannot sign a ROP anymore.

@leha: you are correct that you get a rep hit when your forces are in emeny territory before declaration of war. It is comparable to a ROP rape. You even get a similar message from civs when you try to get a ROP and they deny it.

@shabbaman: Bamspeedy's article talks about attitude hits. This is not the same as rep hits. Others civs can be very happy with you but still not willing to trade 'per turn'. The latter is due to a rep hit (like ROP rape or the example leha gives).

2 Leha

If your forces are within enemy borders and you will declare war you will still be able to make a RoP with this civ. If this civ is smaller or very small (1-3 cities) they will be happy to sign RoP and you can even use RoP signing to get better trade results. Bigger civs will not like to sign RoP and you'll have to pay smth for it.

I've also got a question: Can Darvin (GW) give me 2 free Modern Age techs if I build it in Modern Age?

(Playing CivIII v1.29f)

1. Does the AI make use of espionage missions? Like the "steal tech" ability for example? Or am I just wasting money trying to expose AI spies? If yes, does anyone know how frequently?

2. On the preferences menu, what do the "cancel orders for enemy/friendly combat unit" do exactly? I've been enabling and disabling it and I can't see any difference?

Thanks in Advance. :)

Yes, sometimes you will get a message they have been caught in the attempt, or that your production was asbotaged....

friendly means that your workers will run from non-enemy units, too. Annoying, imagine trying to road to an AI to enable dealing and every time your workers have almost roaded that last jungle tile an AI unit walks by and they cancel their order.....

this is when they are not covered by a defence unit only, btw.

I thought 'friendly' meant they would stop work/movement if they see a friendly (not-at-war) civ move in their line of sight...

AFAIK unless they are on the same tile as a military unit (which essentially covers them)

Hi all,

does anyone know how often the UN vote is being called? I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's each 10 turns, execpt for the first one which is held after 11 years.

We're trying for our first multiple victory in the SG called MB1 - double whammy.

Thanks in advance. :)

The UN builder gets a chance to call a vote on the turn they build the UN, then a further chance every 20 turns after that.

I thought it was every 11 turns, every time. That was certainly the way it worked out for me during my ill-fated GOTM20.

I was pretty sure about this, but from my GOTM21 notes :

1380 AD (turn 266)
Complete UN in Ephesus after rushing using great leader from Russian War.
Get a chance to do a UN vote. Pretty sure I would win, but I want Space Race.

1435 AD (turn 277)
...
UN election turned down.
...

1490 AD (turn 288)
...
UN turned down again.
...

1545 AD (turn 299)
...
Refuse UN again
...

The 11 turn thing was documented and tested some time ago.

It is a bizarre number to choose; maybe they meant to be 10 but the turn counter starts at zero not one?

what effect does communism have on espionage? How exactly is espionage improved with this type of govt?
