You mean the ones above the info box on the lower right hand side? You're supposed to used those in conjunction with the left/right arrows next to them. Something about sorting by unit and sorting by order. I dunno for sure, tho, I've never really used them.

Hi all .

I'm playing PTW 1.21f .
Does AI acknowledge human player of trade embargoes ?
For examle * China and France signed trade embargo against us * or something like this . I never got these . But sometimes
i feel some constrain with trades .

Thanks in advance

Yes, the AI will sign embargos against you. Especially if one is at war with you, and you've made other civs angry by being generally nasty towards the rest of the world (breaking deals and such).

If you can even see the trade options (for luxuries etc) there's no embargo. With an embargo all the luxuries and resources will be greyed out, just as if there was no trade route.

If it's not grey, but you keep being told "they would never aceept such a deal" or words to that effect, it probably means you have broken too many deals and now the AI wont trust you in a per-turn deal

You might still be able to deal for cash on the nail, though.

Is my assumption correct that the right arrow goes to the next unit and the left to the previous one? And how exactly does sorting by unit work? If you have a worker selected, and you sort by unit, does that mean it'll go through all the workers first, and then on to other units (grouped by unit type)? I wonder if this would make all the units of the same type be together in a stack, because that'd be useful (so I don't have to hunt around for the artillery in a very large stack of units, for example). And if you have "sort by unit" selected, and you click "sort by order," it goes back to the default order?

I'll play around with it next time I play, I guess. :)

From what I understand - keep in mind I don't use this feature - to the right is the 'next' unit, and the left is the 'previous' unit. I would guess that when grouped by item type, they would do all of the calvary in order, then musketmen, then riflemen, etc (not necessarily in that order). This would be useful for locating all of an obsolete unit, I guess. The non-sorted order would go by unit creation. At least, that's how I would have done it.

Gonna have to play with that too, next time I load up civ.

Thanks MadScot .

Apparently I'm so peacefull that simply it never gets to Trade
Embargoes against me .

I have one more question though . I like playing Huge maps at
regent level . Sometimes i descover that my civ is on the island ,
say , for 4-5 cities . Is there any sence to continue game or
better just reload ?

@Leha
I would continue to play but I would make map making a priority so that you can build galley's and start to colonize other islands.
The other option is to get Swordsmen and capture some cities and force the ai to give you some techs in exchange for peace.

I have found that perservering with a crappy start forces you to re-think you standard way of playing and teaches you to look at other ways to gain a victory.
Good luck

Thanks Sir Eric .

May be you're right , I'm too conservative , once learned good way to play I hate to change my strategies and I hate to attack
first , some say it's just a game but I just can't .
Next time I'm on island , I'll go for it .

Could someone explain me please why offering Zulus some amount of money ( trying to bribe them against Japan ) I get
* we're getting close ... * from trade advisor , and when I add
in captured Japanise sity with no resisters * they will be probably insulted * ???

because the Ai was unable to fairly value a city, leading to all sorts of exploits, the game was patched quite a while ago such that cities may only be gifted or given as part of a peace deal

by adding the city to the deal you make it an 'illegal' deal, basically

Moonsinger, that's usually what I do too on a milk run, you lose to many potential points if you let pollution cause too much global warming. Every tile that degrades costs you another possible specialist, however, I do suspect that the trick is to produce just a bit of global warming to push the scoring envelope. ;)

You read my mind. Exactly why nuke-teraform was on my menu.;) I miss those good old days...:(

Hey there!

I just had a quick question about avatars.

How do I make custom ones (I'm pretty lazy, can I get them from somewhere ;)) and how do I get them here once I've done the first step?

Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to move large stacks of land units (spec. Modern Armor) without them being in an army? I couldn't find this anywhere!

To make custom ones, you can do one of the following:

a) make it yourself in Paint or a similar program

b) find a picture you like on the Internet, right-click it, and select "save picture as...," and then of course save it somewhere on your computer

c) If you find something you like that's not on the Internet (for example, a picture in Civ3), you can press the "print scrn" button near the top of your keyboard, then go to Paint/similar program, and click Edit--->paste. Then fool around with it and save it when you're done.

After doing one of those, make sure the picture is 65x65 pixels or less, and also 4 kb or less. If you need help with this, just say so, because it's different with different image programs. Also, I can tell you how to make transparent backgrounds (it's also different with different image programs), if you want.

Then, once your picture is ready, go to your UserCP, options, and then scroll down to the bottom to the avatar section. Click "change avatar," scroll down to the bottom and find the custom avatar section. It's pretty self explanatory from there.

Hope this helps! :)

If you have Play the World, hold down the "J" key when moving to move all the units in the stack, and hold down the ctrl key along with the J key to move all the units of that type in the stack. I forgot how it works in regular Civ3, but I know it involves J, so if you don't have PTW just fool around with it to find out. :) Or someone else might be able to tell you.

I also have a question of my own: How does the replay feature when you finish a game work? I've never been able to get it to work in all the games I've finished. I have PTW, if that matters.

In PTW, there are buttons above the window in the lower right (where it shows the date, gold you have, government, etc.) that you can use to select to move a stack of units (all of them, or just a certain type of unit in that stack).

The replay works fine for me in PTW. Just press 'Play', and sometimes you have to wait a minute or so for it to start (the bigger the map, and the longer the game was, the longer it takes for the replay to start).

If there is enough data the wait from clicking the 'play' button can be huge.

The idea is to not get too frustrated and hit the 'X' before it starts. ;):D

I've stumbled into a snag. I've found a picture I like, but when I shrink it to the right size, it only allows me to show the upper left corner. Let's say I want a section in the middle or to the right, how do I go about getting it? Thank you kindly.
