Alas , Turner , I'm at CFC only when I'm at work ( shhhh...) . I don't have internet at home  , but I will have in september .

Right :( . BTW , this is one of the reasons I've finally decided to buy DSL internet ( the other is CFC non-stop ;) )

And there's more , to finance this , I'm quit smoking - you see what Civ's done to poor guy ?

Is there a way to predict what tile in your city's radi will live on? Because during the industrial age I like to build improvemnts on tiles I think the next population will live on but they sometimes would rather live on a grassland tile than a cattle tile.

general_kill, I (quite rightly) hate governors, but one of their only good uses if to emphasise production in all cities.

When a city grows the governor will assign the new citizen to a high production tile, this gets added 'free' to the shields collected from the last turn. (Free as in food and commerce from a newly worked citizen are not added, only shields are).

If you don't want to go around and manage your tiles yourself you will have to play with the other governor setting to try and find what guides their choice of tile to work, but you are missing out on a huge part of optimising your production and food if you do this.

ok. i've signed a right of passage with my neighbor (Egypt), but now its been over 20 turns (i think...) and i want to cancel it. how?
ive tried it a few times but it always gets screwed up and my military advisor starts geering for war...

1. Start Diplomacy
2. Go to the propose a deal bit
3. Click Active deals
4. Then click on the ROP agreement
5. Dont renew it

Welcome to CfC :)

:) thanks!

by the way, is there any way to expel units from my territory? Cleopatra is doing it to my troops, but when she moves settelers into my land i can't find any way to expel them or ask her to stop.

There is... kind of. Start diplomacy, then there should be an option saying something like, "Could you please remove your forces from my territory?". They normally ignore you when you say this, but if the AI has a few units within your borders or has been within em for a long time, then you can ask them to leave, or declare war.

Its on the main diplomacy menu when you start talking to the AI.

Hope that helps :)

In addition to what Gainy Bo says, I must caution you when doing this, because sometimes it insults the other leader so much that they declare war on you. Only ask them to leave if you are on good enough terms with them, or you have the sufficient amount of troops to back up your claim with force. Cleo might just be looking for an excuse to declare war.

Well good luck. There might be a marketing angle there. .. Play Civ, Stop Smoking. Ah. . . it needs work. But good luck. . .

Are there any "replays" showing turn by turn games I can download or goto? I really want to see what the pros do to manage their civ so well.

general kill

go to the GOTM forum and look for the QSC results for a recent game

people keep turn by turn notes on moves, builds, etc., so if you look at one of the better players - Sir Pleb, Moonsinger, Bamspeedy, et al - you'll see what they did to start a game and, sometimes, they say why.

Zachriel did a few articles like that for earlier GOTMs too, but they may not be entirely applicable to the latest patches - all worth a read

I have question regarding shields production in a city.

I'm playing a game on Deity Level and I'm not worried about gold or science. The only thing I want to do is to build mountains of swordsmen to invade China, but I can't do that since most of my cities have a low shield production.

For example, I have a city size 6, found on grassland, an irrigated cattle, one mine, near the forbidden palace, no entertainers, but it still produces just 3 shields.

What determines the shield production, and is there any trick to improve it?

Wardog

I'd have guessed someone playing Deity knew all the tricks of the game, and I hesitate to advise someone playing at a higher level than me, but here goes...

Each tile has a value in shields, food and commerce. If a citizen of a town is placed to work on that tile, then the three components of the tile are added to the potential of the city.

Food is added with no losses or adjustments (except the "despotism penalty", whereby all potential values higher than 2 are reduced by one)

Shields are added to the base. The number of shields is then divided into waste and production, waste being red shields and productive being blue. The blue shield total is then modified for the presence of factories and such.

Commerce is divided into corruption (red) and productive commerce. The latter is then apportioned between research, entertainment and treasury according to the civ-wide sliders set on F1.

For the details of the amount that goes to waste and corruption, check out alexman's thread in strategy and tips

edit: spelling. I kind of assumed you had mined all the tiles to get extra shields, and were suffering corruption problems.

Okay, Maybe not a newbie question, but I have attempted to load a scenario from the modpack forum here at civfanatics.com and Civ3 (not PTW) is crashing over a missing reference in the pediaicon.txt file. This is Jason Morrison's colonization modpack I'm talking about if that helps. Is there anyway to get around this error? Any help you can give me would be great. I really want to play this mod badly.

Madscot,

In fact there is almost no corruption in my city, since it's close to the forbidden palace. The city is producing four shields and one is lost to corruption.

I play on Deity but you know, there's always something new we can learn about Civ 3. I'm close to win my first Deity game but I'm far from being an expert, and I think it's possible for someone to win a game on high levels without knowing everything. For example, I still don't know how to use paras. :p

I though that should be something I didn't know about shields because there is no rational reason to explain my low shields production.

Thanks a lot for your help.
