A note about Communism: corruption works somewhat differently than under other governments. Someone can correct me if I'm way off, but as I understand it, corruption is calculated normally with whatever modifier commie uses, but then the corrupt shields/commerce get spread among all your cities. So cities near the capital/FP/SPHQ become more corrupt and farther cities become less corrupt.

Regarding governments, while switching into Communism for prolonged war in a large empire works for religious civs, other civs are best suited to using Republic the entire game, even when they go to war.

I'll do the "specialist farm" stategy for now, but I got a milatary leader and am saving him for a Secret Police station when I hit industrial age and go communist. I read that communist is good for a sprawling empire and since I'm religous, the anarchy won't be too bad. I'm gambling the unit support will be better, being able to pop rush in my totally corrupt cities will save me money, and the corruption will be better than I'm facing in Monarchy.

Any feedback appreciated

I've never played Communist, but my understanding is that Walliard is right in this:

What I've read about Communism, though, is that it works best with large empires with lots of large cities. Unfortunately, that's at odds with specialist farming, which is usually ICSing cities, and none of them wind up with very many tiles to work.

Also, be aware that as long as you hold that MGL, you cannot get another one. So if it's still early game yet, you might consider either building an army or using the MGL for another small wonder.

Thanks all!

I'm at the end of the middle ages, 2 techs away from industrial. I plan to grab nationalism and then communism.

I'm almost through beating the civs on the continent I'm fighting on and I don't think I can fit an army on a galleon, so it would likely be stranded.

Unrelated note, how does drafting work?

If getting the Army back to your capitol would help, you can gift a city on the continent where the Army unit is, after putting it in that city. The Army unit will then be automatically teleported back to your capitol as the city changes hands. ;)

You hit the "Draft" button, up by the governor and hurry buttons. Your city loses 1 pop and you gain 1 conscript of the best defensive unit available to you.

Also, each government type has a limit per turn. Not sure what they are, but rep and demo are low. Drafting also causes unhappiness in the remaining citizens, and that also hits you if you capture a city from which troops have been drafted.

And I think the city has to be above a certain size (6, maybe) and you can't draft foreign citizens (IIRC)

After you get all the other techs, you can reseach FTs for bonus points. I don't think they're really worth it, though. They don't add anything to your empire and you can get more points spending the money on entertainment.

Is there any way to mod this tech so that you can make it do something...(um...forgive me for saying this...) like it does in Civ 4?

What does it do in civ4? Obviously you could add a whole bunch of new techs at the end of the tree which do whatever you want.

Hah! Funny, I didn't even think about that!

Thanks!

I need help. Moving a large amount of units in the game takes forever because I have about 200+ workers and about 50 military units in the game that I am currently playing. I tried to download the patch but I get the "please insert disk" error. What do I do?

Use Ctrl-J and Ctrl-X to move them in same-type groups and X or J to move all units in the group. You can also choose to not animate moves in the preferences menu.

I want to run Soonpy Graphics (white tundra) on a PC, but not as a scenario file. I have a different scenario I want to use, while haveing different graphics.

I have a folder called Snoopy41g and a file called "Tundra Forest.pcx" where do I put them on a PC in order to change the graphics?
