I'm a complete newb so could somebody please help me. Could somebody explain exactly how the atk and def units work.

When a unit attacks (moves into an terrain square occupied by an enemy), then it uses its attack value to determine combatresults and the enemy uses its defense value to determine combat results. In the enemy's turn a unit might attack you and then your unit uses its defense value and the enemy unit uses its attack value to determine the combat results. For this reason, it is a good idea to protect your cities with units that have a good defense value and attack your enemy's cities with units that have a good attack value. It is also a good idea to have a few defensive units within your attacking group of units to protect the group against counterattacks and to use to defend any captured cities against counterattacks in the following enemy turn.

If your city is in Civil Disorder, do your cities/metro have less defense bonus?

During a disorder, your cities will have their normal defensive bonuses. However, if a city has a few citizens that are resisting your rule (typically after the capture of a city), then defensive bonuses do not apply.

You're welcome.

For all Vanllia players out there, there are mods for Vanilla only. Unfortunately, you need to dig for them.

Most if not all will say on the first post which versions of Civ3 they work on.

Will it work under Civ3?

And is there any way to make my Civ3 PTW work if CIv 3 runs and Civ3 doesn't? I know this sounds bad, but I tried all I could.

Uhm.. Gelion - bro - I'd love to help but you need to be much more specific. Civilization 3, original, without play the world or conquests, is Vanilla.

^ thanks for that :)
I'm a Civ3 newb.... Here's what I typed before.

"The problem is:
Civ3 runs fine... when I try to lead the PTW I get a flash(?) small screen in the middle with something that could be name of the company. Then the screen goes blank for 3 seconds and I get thrown back to Windows. No warning messages of any kind." Re-install doesn't work....

No I bought it some time ago.... still have the recepit.
It also doesn't want to run without the CD.

I think that'd be a video card issue, if you dont know what kind you have, go to :
START
RUN
Type : DxDiag
Hit Display
and reply with whats to the right of "Name: "

I - Myself- Use a Geforce 5000's series. 128.0 mb

Alright, I have a Technical AI Question.

I'm playing a small map with me [babylon] & the Hitties. The hitties have a barb camp 1 tile from their border[ only one city! ] and one barb fortified inside their borders, I've dispatched two bowmen - as I'm friendly with the hitties - but I'm wondering

Will it improve my reputation?
Should I let the barbs mess with them a little?

Ahhhhg!!! Two different barbarian camps dispatched 6! conscripts against me...:O :(

Update : Around 6 more just popped out of the black area I havent discovered yet...

Nevermind - I just got two Elite Bowmen out of all this - Barbarian camps located and fortified:king:

What kinds of things affect my reputation, I can think of Rop-Rape,GPT, Treaty(and all else deals-MPP). Is there anything else?

Basically anything that involves you giving the AI something over time, whether it is gold, luxuries, Peace, whatever.

Of course, this affects your *Reputation*,which determines the AI's willingness to enter long-term deals with you. It has nothing to do with their *Attitude* towards you. (You didn't ask, but I'm adding it for completeness. ;))

Bamspeedy's AI Attitude is an excellent article on this.

Thank you Padma.:)

Is it possible - which I doubt it is - to not have the AI fret when I build roads inside their territory?

My Motive : Trade route
Ulterior Motive : Highway to enemy through jungle-lands :king:
