I don't know how it is actually determined, but it surely a function of bombardment Vs defense. Cats have a BRF of 411, I think. Artillery is 12 and I am not sure of the r/f probably 2/2.

1) Would, then, an attacker getting defense bombarded have his attack weighed against the bombard power of the unit?

2) Congrats on 8,000 posts:goodjob:

I think he'd rather have his defense weighed against the attack of the bombarding unit. As I understand it, the artillery unit will first have one shot at the attacker, and when it does, it's the artillery unit that attacks and the attacking unit that defends against the bombardment. :crazyeye: That would seem to make sense to me, and if I'm wrong, someone will probably correct me soon.

I don't know, but I would think not. It should be its defense that matters for the bombardment.

Thank for alerting, me I had no idea how many post I had. Too many that is for sure.

The change in happiness is also affected by the change in corruption. Say you have 20% on lux and have WLTKD, maybe you are netting x gold and 20% is towards happiness. Now you lost the WLTKD and the X is down and the amount spent on happiness is down enough to impact it.

WLTKD only affects shields, not commerce.

Corruption affects commerce as well as shields, so lowering it, could recover some commerce. I see nothing in the WLTKD article to say it only affects shields.

I will admit, I do not pay attention to WLTKD as I do try to have them, unless I just have all the lux.

I haven't tested this, but it seems like I get an extra commerce in my "dead" cities under Republic Gov., when WLTKD is "ON". (Viz. 2 commerce instead of 1.)

Is this just wishful thinking? :)

Hi, I read about this one bug and the solution for it which was something really simple, but I didn't write it down stupidly enough, and I don't remember what the bug was called. Anyway, it's that when I play a Conquest game (the Cedars of Lebanon atm), when I win, the game crashes and my victory isn't recorded. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yeah, and I can't win without the game crashing.:(

I think it has to do with whether the campaignrecord.hof (or some such title) file is Read Only (it shouldn't be).

I think you're day dreaming. :p

However, I believe the reduction of waste/corruption is substantial when you get WLTKD. I think I read somewhere that it has the same effect as having a court house in the city. I might be wrong about that though.

I've done a fair amount of micro managing my half-corrupt cities, and observed the difference.

If you can get rid of the only unhappy person in a pop 6 or larger city by making a specialist, I'd say you often gain a lot by doing so. If you know nationalism, you could turn him in to a policeman for example, if that makes a difference in both your gold income and time to finish the current build. Make him a specialist, and go back to the city once it celebrates the leader, and check the result. Now waste and/or corruption has changed because WLTKD, so it might be worth changing the policeman, or whatever specialist you hired, into some other specialist, depending on gold and shields to finish current build.

It might seem like a time consuming pain to micro manage in this way, but I personally feel that this kind om MM is quite fun, because the result seems unpredictable.

I'm not seeing any benefit in commerce from WLTKD. (C3C + Republic Gov.)....I was indeed day dreaming.

I have a size 14 "dead" city that produces a "base" of 30 Commerce if you add up the production from all the tiles...And I have a Marketplace. The fireworks are going off, so I assume it's WLTKD. (Also, CRpMapStat indicates WLTKD status.)

City Screen:
27 Red Commerce + 4 Yellow Commerce.

Now, maximum corruption is 90%, so I would have 3 yellow commerce there. Marketplace is a 50% bonus, so that's another 1. So, where's the WLTKD bonus? :crazyeye:

It certainly looks like, as watorrey & Chamnix have stated, there is no benefit to commerce for WLTKD.

@NickyH: I think you are wrong about the Courthouse being the same as WLTKD as far as commerce is concerned, because I KNOW that commerce corruption is reduced with a CH. :)

P.s. In the example above, if I increase the base Commerce to 31, the number of Yellow Commerce increases from 4 to 6............Not sure why(?).

What factors should you take into consideration when deciding whether to build unis/banks in core cities?

Personally;

1. Am I doing my own research? If I am, banks won't do me good.

2. Will I be doing research soon? If yes, I want unis even though I'm not researching at the moment.

3. Do I need the culture?

4. Can I afford the cost at the moment? (e.g. at war, in wonder race, etc.)

I'm sure others have their own factors that they consider. I play mostly by gut-feel

Uni I would try to squeeze into any good city. IOW it is netting around 10 beaker base. If I am not going to be researching, then I don't need them.

Banks are trickier as I not only need to have some net base gold, but I have to expect to use taxing at least some of the time. IOW if I run a percentage on lux and the rest on research all the time, a bank is of no value, even in a good city.

Now if you have Smiths, you can fudge as no maint cost. You still have to get the shields though.

Last thing is the game going to last long enough to matter? Essentially what Sashie said.

Hi guys, a quick one about corruption. As you turn the size of the map up, is the corruption spread over a further distance? If you see what I mean... Thanks!

As the map gets bigger, the Optimal CIty Number also increases. This means your core cities will be less corrupt until you hit the OCN limit, after which your cities will be more corrupt. In comparison with smaller maps, corruption generally decrease as the map gets bigger. Number of OCN:

Tiny: 14

Small: 17

Standard: 20

Large: 28

Huge: 36

I hope this helps.

OCN is the Optimal City Number or that amount of towns you must have before you are allowed to build the FP.
