Yes, you're right Turner_727...........I got a bit carried away............it's definitely cheaper to just buy Conquests.

However, what I like about Civ 3 Complete, which costs about $30 is:
1. You get all 3 versions of Civ 3 (Vanilla, PTW, Conquests).
2. You get the "Final" versions......No downloading required.
3. You can play any of the 3 versions without changing the cd in the drive. :)

Yeah, but you can get Conquests for about $10 on ebay.

Conquests installs PTW when it installs itself.

Conquests will patch Vanilla to 1.29f if it isn't already, and when it installs PTW it will patch it to 1.27f. But you do need to d/l the 1.22 patch.

PTW & Conquests can be played from the same disc. Honestly, I haven't gone back to PTW or Vanilla (except to check a save posted here) since getting Conquests.

The only thing about Conquests is you don't get the PTW extra units pack, but that can be d/led from Firaxis.

But if you do have vanilla, and buy complete, you need to uninstall vanilla and make sure it's removed from your system before installing complete. I've heard of conflicts when trying to install complete over vanilla... but YMMV.

Anyways, different strokes for different folks....so however you want to do it, it really doesn't matter to me. ;)

That's right, you need Vanillia installed before you can install PTW or Conquests. But not Complete, as Complete is all three versions.

I'm sure Conquests wouldn't work on my Vanilla game (even the Editor tells me that "no civ3 installation detected", but I can use the Editor by clicking ignore). So if I want Conquests I have to buy Vanilla also.

Does military trait increase your chance of MGL? (yes I know, more likely to get up to elite, but at that point...?)

Not directly. The chances to get a (military) leader from an elite win stay the same, you will however very likely have more elite units and hence wins. It is a bit as if you play a lottery and have more tickets.

I know that a Privateer can attack ships without war breaking out, but can I attack an AI's Privateer without war breaking out?

I had tragic experiences w/ the privateers; i built a HUGE fleet and cotroled the seas - but then EVERYONE declared war.
Good thing we learn from mistakes.

Can someone direct me to or offer suggestions on Secret Police HQ placement? I'm getting ready to use Communism for the first time and not quite sure where this should be built when I get it.

I never built it as I don't use communism, but since the corruption is spread out, I would expect its placement to not be critical. The important thing is to get it down.

It lowers corruption like a second forbidden palace I think, so try to use it to affect as many cities as you can.

I have a question: If I build the Temple of Artemus will it get rid of the upkeep costs for my cities that already have Temples in them?

What about Sun Tzu's War Academy and Barracks?

When you build Pyramids, ToA, STWA or any of the other building addtion wonders, the maintenance cost for them goes to zero, so there's no need to sell them off, though the $$ might be helpful. However if you have any Coal Plants and complete Hoover, while the maintenance cost goes to zero, the Coal Plant still produces pollution even though the Hydro Plant has now superseded it, so sell off Coal Plant unless you fear losing Hoover.

That's not exactly accurate.

If you have existing temples when you complete ToA, then you are still charged maintenance from them. So if you want to get rid of the maintenance, you need to go to each city that had a temple before ToA completed and sell the temple. Then you will get a free temple. However, you will lose the temple when ToA expires, so it might be better to keep the upkeep of the temples in certain cities.

The same is true for Barracks with Sun Tzu's, however Sun Tzu's doesn't expire.

I think I'll do that with Sun Tzu's, but I thought you couldn't sell improvements unless you're negative/bankrupt?

I have often wondered who buys the things you sell off.

To make sure I understand the Barracks that I built will continue to need money for maintainence. But if I sell them I get free ones when I get Sun Tzu's???
