I don't remember the exact cost, but I remember one game where I rushed an army every other turn for a while, the cost is probably 1-2 k if not rushed from scratch.
Really though, if you're fighting you'll get more armies via MGL unless you're on Chieftain, and in that case you don't need Armies anyway.

Rush cost is 3 gold per shield, or 6gps if you rush unit on first turn. So Army will cost 2400 gold on first turn, or 1200 on second.

I tested it one of last games, maybe it was modded 
Just loaded SG save and yes, it cost 4 shields
. So, cost for Army is 1600/3200 gold.

Let me make another question and we stick to the army rush on turn zero: if you hurry a worker (even though it just takes one turn to complete) you pay 80 gold on turn zero. Now you have 10 shields in the box. So you'll have to pay for 390 shields. What's the cost at turn zero?

If you have at least one shield in the box, you will pay only 4 gold per shield

As for the use of Armies by the AI in Conquests, it wasn't actually *disabled*. They will use Armies if they are pre-supplied with them, as in a Scenario. But the logic that controls the building/loading of them is FUBARed, so they will never actually do such a thing.

Exactly correct Trooper. Quite often I'll disband an obsolete unit, but with none available I'll cash rush the cheapest item first and then cash run the expensive item.

Padma: If you create a wonder that produces armies and let the AI build it, what does the AI do about loading the armies? Not one of those sword, archer & knight things I hope.

In WWII in the Pacific, Japan start the game with two armies. Almost every time they fill the army with one unit: a light tank or a Nipponese Infantry.
Yeah, they will put *one* unit in it, if it starts out empty. But the next unit in it has to have at least one more Movement Point, IIRC, and the AI basically gets tied up in knots looking for ever-increasing MP units, and thus never puts another one in. The logic is totally hosed (if you don't like FUBAR, anyway ).

Ah, that explains why they put a single unit in the army (read movement point), the light tank is already at max (i.e. 3).

Well i can't guarantee that it MADE the army ... i don't remember if it was ptw or conquest
- one thing is for sure i remember it was the celts and kicked my butt until i made an army of my one
But i know for sure that the ai USES armies - it was in ROR standard conquest scenario Carthage atacked with it's army in the first turns...
