My latest excursion into civ3 (i always upgrade my political system so you know i dont know what im doing) has me being eaten alive by thousands of tiny persian dudes destroying one fortified mine/irrigation/road after another and then attacking my cities by the bus loads of different soldiers.

I had 14 cities but soon was reduced to 10 with 5 of others in revolt. I was so frustrated I wanted to ... end it like a bad checkers game - u know - :)

So i thot that CxxC would do it, but then realized they come in and destroy the weakest point first cutting off the city making it weaker and repeat. Then i thot i wuld put up fortifications on every tile with 1 catapult, 1 hoplite, and 1 archer/longbowman but realized that seems like insane coverage... or is it? So I new I had to come here and ask.

tia! :goodjob:

It looks like you're in Democracy. It's a little better than Republic in terms of corruption, but a lot worse in terms of war weariness (your citizens get unhappy from being at war, especially if your cities are captured or razed). If you're still in Republic, you should raise the happiness slider to keep your people happy.

You have that plan of fortification... don't use it. Instead, concentrate your forces in one or more larger stacks and kill your enemy's units one by one. You're using catapults and that's good, because you can hurt his units without damaging yours. Then finish them off with offensive units (archers, cavalries, ...)

On the preferences menu, what does "Always Renegotiate Deals" deal with? Is it renegotiating peace treaties or those trades that "may be cancelled peacefully after 20 turns" or what?

Also, is the final "ranking" (_____ the Puny, ______ the Weak, ______ the Magnificent, etc.) based on final score?

Yup, that's based on score. As for the "Always Renegotiate Deals", I always get them mixed up. I think when it's checked, it means after 20 turns you make contact with them.

Edit: Hmm...missed the last page. :(

Is there a savegame editor that I can just change the 'team color' of one of the AI Civs, resave the game, and play with the color changed?

In my current game, (link in my sig), I play the Americans. Maya is next to me, and we both are light blue. Looking at the Mini-Map is confusing to say the least. :crazyeye:

With PTW/C3C, you can change the ending date in the Player Setup Screen, under Game Limits. The max is 1000. Default is 540.

But you can't stop the histograph, the game will at least always end at however many turns you set it to.

You can play beyond that endpoint, but you won't trip any more wins, like a conquest, UN Vote, Space Ship launch....

where can i find ptw/c3c?

I got the games on eBay and also at Staples. Our family only has a copy for each person. (6)

You only need C3C as it comes with PTW. Gamestop and the like often have a copy, just keep your eyes peeled. You can definetely find one on Ebay.

What does the "Draft Citizen" button next to "Hurry Productivity" do? And what do you need to make this button available, as I don't remember seeing it early on in the game.

When you research Nationalism, you can take one of your citizens and turn it into a Conscript unit. This isn't usually a very good idea, though, because it causes unhappiness and it is only a Conscript unit (only two HP).

I have progressed from "Gandhi the Pathetic" to "Catherine the Foolish"! w00t!

Speaking of which, what factors contribute to your score?

Territory, happy, content, and specialist citizens, date of victory (the earlier the better), and future techs.

And what are all the final possible score rankings? I can't find them anywhere...

I'm not very familiar with this one, but my guess is that the highest is "______ the Magnificent", and you must get something like 5,000 points to receive that title.

Welcome to CFC, BTW. :)

Magnificent is the top level. Drafting is not needed for most games, but can be a life saver in the right place. One game I looked at was a sid game where drafting scores of infantry made a big difference.
