Two ways: 1) Attack with Marines. (Or, if you're Scandinavia, Bezerkers) 2) Demand it when making peace.

Those are pretty much your options. You could try culture flipping it, if the island was close enough to your territory, but it would probably be pretty difficult to do that.

Only Vikings can use berserkers and marines.

Everyone else Marines.

Cant you take a town from an AI (size 2 or higher) if you beat em up enough? :D

I've never had an AI give me a Size 7 city or higher. I have, however, forced them to gift me two size 4 towns, a size 3, and a couple of size 1 towns.

You must have really beat them up good. :hammer:

Actually, the kind of stupid thing I found was that the AI will actually give away their cities in return for gold at the end of a war. I had a tonne of excess wealth (late-industrial game), and the Egyptians would offer me all of their (7-8) cities except the capital for about 150-200 gold per turn for 20 turns. VERY stupid as any human player would realise, but apparently not the AI... that's one of the things I like better about Civ4, that can't be exploited any more. ;)

Does anyone know what happened to the ATG scenario that Exsanguination and Kryten (and others) were working on a few years back? The last I heard they were moving over to the CDG Forum, but the threads they've got over there seem to be dead. :(
Has the mod been abandoned?
Actually the whole CDG site is pretty dead, due to being continuously hacked. Most people moved over to EVG (evo-games.net), though I don't believe I've seen Exsanguination and Kryten around there...

You need to get a patch on your game as the AI has been prevented form taking gold for towns for years.

Hmm, that must have been back when I was playing with vanilla 1.07 then. I have Civ3 Complete now, and haven't checked out if that exploit still holds. :)

I have a question about Wonders (or at least about the Statute of Zeus and the Manhattan Project) that I haven't seen answered anywhere: What happens if I lose access to a resource required for the construction of one of these Wonders? For example, if I am building or have built the Statute of Zeus, what happens if I lose access to ivory, either mid-build or post-build. My assumption as to the latter is that it (the Wonder) would continue to function, but I don't know this for sure. As to the former, would I be able to finish the build?

If you start it, you can finish it. If you lose your supply of Ivory after building SoZ, it stops producing AC. Once the Manhattan Project is finished, any civ with the required techs and resources can buils nukes. If you start building a nuke and you lose a required resource, you can still finish it. The same goes for all units that require resources.

I know that I said I assumed that the wonder continued working if you lose the resource. Don't ask me why I said that. I dunno. Somehow, I assumed that if you lost control/access to uranium, you could no longer build nukes. On the other hand, it hadn't occurred to me that losing access to ivory would prevent the SoZ from continuing to produce Ancient Cavalry. Thanks.

Just an afterthought related to the above...if you have three armies, and you start the pentagon, then you lose one army, the pentagon build will be changed.

Very helpful info, Bartleby! I'd wondered about that last time I started the Pentagon immediately after getting my 3rd army who was at great risk. Thank you! :goodjob:

That's correct - it was only said that your current build orders WOULD be completed. I theorize that this is because you already gathered the Uranium necessary to build the bomb itself and you're just putting things together after that. Same for other units - you get the iron necessary to forge swords with the first turn of production, and after that you already have the iron, so it doesn't matter if you lose the resource.
You just can't produce more after that.

Just don't switch to something else and you will be able to finish, if you switch after you lose the necessary resource then try to switch back to the original build it won't let you because you don't have the resource any more.

Was that a run on sentence or what?

Yes. You needed to put a . after finish instead of a comma. BTW, If you have the Pentagon currently in production, and you lose one of your 3 armies, you can stil build it, but you cant change, cause then you cant build it. :scan:

No, you can't...the build will be changed like it is in a wonder cascade.
