Ahh...but sometimes it is. Depends on what you whip.

I had a case once where I was whipping a unit or building, i don't remember. If it was a unit it would have made an MP, and if it was a building it would have been a temple. Anyways, I whipped them, and opened the city up to deal with the unhappiness. Turns out there wasn't any, because of the effects by the new unit/improvement. So under certain conditions whipping is as good as starving, because getting an MP or happiness improvement offsets it.

So if that city was hooked up to your trade network, and you had all 8 lux's...whipping a marketplace would cause however many citizens to go unhappy, but create 12 happy faces. So win-win there.

So a marketplace costs, what? 100 shields? Assuming no shields 'spent' on it, that's 5 pop cost, since the shields per pop is halved when there's no sheilds spent on it. So you'd have to have a pop of at least 17 to be left with 12 pop, right?

Not sure if I have the equation right. I don't usually pop rush.

Make sure that you have at least one shield spent on it (or disband something first) otherwise the cost will be double. That's 10 people  or 6 if you rush a spear and then switch to the market for the last 80.

Going back to if it isn't a metro, it would still be an OK thing to do as you could easily cope with additional pop growth.

I bought Civ3 Complete, and as far as I can recall there was no serial number for that. I might be wrong on that though of course, as it was a while ago. But seeing that all the previous versions didn't have serial numbers, and that Civ4 doesn't have serial numbers either, it would seem to logically imply that the in-between step didn't have serial numbers either. :)

i just bought complete and i didn't need a serial number

That's what it is. A single scientist in your empire. CAII will get annoyed if you are running 10% science and this generates more than one beaker.

In the editor, under Scenario Properties, there's a place to put the start date in.

Personally, I've been tempted to put it at 1, and have every turn = 1 year, but you can't start the game at 1.

Which units do you (automatically) switch to during the normalcy-mobilization transition (if you forget to change builds)? The most expensive, the least expensive, the most colourful?

I've never used mobilization, so I couldn't tell ya.

I might dig out an old save sometime and play with it tho.

i have a big problem one of my allies attacked me for no reason they went from gracious to furious i didnt attack them to my knowledge i did nuke another civilization for no reason though... also how do you keep trades/treaties locked (or for more than 20 turns) oh and also is it possible/can you get other civilizations polite/gracious after wars? (what ways if so)

Your nuking another civ is what caused them to do this. Anytime you're at peace with a civ and nuke another civ, the civs you're at peace with will go to war against you. Unless you've already got a Military alliance with them.

what about "undoing" my wrong doings lol? making them "gracious" again and also about the longer than 20 turns in military pacts/locked alliance(how do i get a locked alliance) and more than 20 turn in recource trading

You don't get a locked alliance. It has to be set in the editor before you start the game. It's designed more for scenarios than regular gameplay.

Eventually, I'm sure, you could get them back to gracious.

...Or perhaps not, since it takes a lot of years of bribery and sucking up to get a good relationship, and if you're at nukes then there's probably not overly much game time left. ;)

It's an agreement between two AI, or between you and an AI, not to trade resources or luxuries to a third party for 20 turns. AFAIK you can still trade techs during a trade embargo, so long as it odesn't escalate to war.

Do remember that some things in the game are year based, not turn based. Culture doubles after 1000 years pass, so starting a game later or playing with each turn = 1 year radically changes those dynamics.

Also, tourism income from wonders is year based.

Finally, I think barbarian camps start showing up at 2390 or so.
