Tone, are you sure about the total only working for the 4000 BC save? I've never noticed that (I have it set to the "ok for GOTM" mode).
I'm sorry-my mistake. I've always concentrated on the number of tiles to win section and never looked at the total number of tiles. The total is correct but I never looked that closely. My defence is that it does say "visible only" above it but I should have looked more closely-that only appears to the other information.

Does the age you are in affect the speed at which your workers can build improvements? I have noticed in the game I am playing that my workers have begun building various improvements more quickly than they did a few turns ago. I have not changed government or done anything else that would account for this increase in worker speed.

I beleive the industrial age has one such reserch topic. Steam Power, Replaceable Parts, or industrialization. Also the gov't type you are in affects it.

inventing replaceable parts increases worker speed.

EDIT:

Only replaceable parts.

No. Reaching Replaceable Parts causes workers to work twice as fast!

Getting to RP is, IMO, the most important point for Histographic Victory games. (And, you get to use Civil Engineers.) ;)

Edit: X-Post with MAS.

Quick question: If going for a diplomatic victory, can you build the UN and then reduce every opponent's population and area down to under 25% so that you are the only candidate for election? Or will the next strongest opponent be the other candidate?

After I have ended my first war with a civ , it always requests to renew the peace treaty after 20 turns.and it`s war again if I dont agree

But maybe Im not ready to go to war again just yet but need another five turns lets say

Is there any way around this.........I find myself either commiting to 20 goes of peace that I dont want or going to war again before i`m ready?

note this problem does not happen after the second war

I think that the second place person ALWAYS gets to have a vote for them. That would be extremely cheap.

I think that this only occurs if you sign some either GPT deal or resource deal for peace. I generally liquidate them, so it doesn't matter one way or another.

So if I take cash , tech , cities , maps or a combination of them , then after 20 goes the peace treaty expires and I can go to war at will? but gpt means they will offer to renew the treaty? did I read you right?

Do you have lists of victories by players on this forum based only on the earliest date a game was won ? Points dont interest me too much but I`m trying to win in the quickest time possible

Also wondering if many people have had vanilla diety wins using russia? It seems to me the cossack is worse than cav cause you cant upgrade from knights

Firstly I'd like to confirm D0MINATRIX's answer on when traties come up for renegotiation. If you don't want to have to redeclare or be forced to accept peace for a further 20 turns, don't have a gpt trade as part of the deal.

Also to point cronullasharks in the direction of the Hall of Fame. It's only fair to point out that there are many good players that have not submitted games here but I suspect that this is simply because they are not interested in maximising score or finishing dates. Games that have been submitted tend to have favourable starts. You can also download saves of these games to see what players have done.

Marsden has created the HOF Annex in the HOF forum that lists the top ten finishes for each catagory, although if you want to see it by level, you'll need to use the first link.

Russia's real strength does not lie with cossacks in either C3C or vanilla. Their UU comes far too late for a conquest/domination victory. Their main strength as far as HOF games are concerned is the ability to get through the tech tree fast, by popping techs in the AA and cheap libraries to aid reseach beyond this. SirPleb's 210AD Diplomatic victory demontrates why this is so.

Yes, the cossack is second only to the F-15 on the "badness" scale.

Nah, the Cossack is quite useful if you know how to use them. I would rank them in the lower middle third of the UU's, but they are better than lots of others. I do mean the Conquests version, as that blitz capability is very nice for generating lmore elites and leaders. Kill 2 red-lined opponents, and suddenly you have an elite. Do it repeatedly, and you get lots of leaders. You can then rush the Military Academy, the Pentagon, Heroic Epic, pretty much anything. You'll soon have 4 unit cossack arrmies filled with *elites over-running everyone in reach.

Quick question: If I have Civ III Complete is EVERY cd (vanilla, PTW and conquests) fully patched, or do I have to download and patch one of them two of them...

And :p to all

I'm not really a newbie anymore, but I do have a question. At what point do you cease to get slaves when razing enemy cities? It almost always happens in my games, as I raze alot, especially late games where enemy culture is easily 10 times mine and cities flip almost continually. It kinda takes the fun out of razing when there are no spoils for the victor.

Somehow in my Civ Complete game my unit actions buttons have moved from the bottom center of my screen to the right center. Please please please tell me how to get the stinking things back to the bottom.

Thank you!
Cheryl

Cossacks with blitz would be awesome agreed..but in vanilla the upgrade path is broken so the best your horsmen will ever be is knights......thats why i reckon they are actually worse than the replacement unit..

Having said that it seems Im one of the few people here stuck in the dark ages without conquests
