Craters actually reduce the food/commerce/production of a tile by one each, if memory serves, so it's in one's best interest to un-crater the tile ASAP if it's near a productive city.

You sure about that? I'm almost certain I've seen 1food cratered grassland tiles.

But then, as my laptop has been screwing itself for the past 10 months, I haven't played civ in a good while.

game start , first city is say London , you have many cities and then it is the turn of New London but what happens if the list is again exhausted ? Is it New New London or New London squared ? Civ1 had a list of cities available to everyone , ı think it started with Naples .Is there a similar common list for Civ 3 ?

It's either London 2, or New London 2

Not 100% sure about the order here...

First the former, then the latter. :)

EDIT: Beaten to it.

Size of empire, I think. There's probably some corollary between the size of yours and the size of theirs.

Thanks Turner- regarding the crater tile, is it usable by the city for working or is it in effect polluted till workers can fix it up?

psweetman is correct. Polluted tiles give 0 of everything, cratered tiles give what the tile normally would minus 1 of everything (food, shields, and commerce).

Why do different embassies cost different amounts to establish? What factors are involved?

Distance from their capital to your nearest city and size of their capital as well as a cost factor in the editor. A Study of Espionage Missions.

Tested this last night before posting it. I had a irrigated railroaded plains tile that gave zero, zero, and zero after I bombarded it.

Maybe you should have tested a grassland, as plains only give 1 of each usually (without improvements) and that results in zero, zero and zero naturally. :)

Alright, my bad. I tested it on a plains. I just ran it through a grassland, floodplain and plains....

Started a game and put everything on random. It came up with a small map with two landmass and 4 civs. I am playing as India and am just left with a very weakened Viking civ on my landmass, will wipe him out when 20 turns of peace are up. Did the suicide dash with a galley and got to the other landmass, have met the civs and explored there coast.

Am way ahead in techs in the MA and have got me a SGL. I usualy beeline for cavlery at this point. However to launch any type of attack across the ocean I am going to need astromny at least, and the other civs presently aren't helping out much in terms of research. They don't have the cash to buy techs off me, but should I gift to them to get them into MA so they may be of some use to me?

Also with the SGL what my best use of him in this game? I have barracks built in almost all of my towns already. Aiming for miltaray win. I can do the wonder that produces ancient cavlery or kights every 5 turns but they will be waiting around for most of the MA with no one to fight?

thanks for any input

How about rushing The Great Lighthouse to get across the sea squares? :)

Doh! In my head I got confused thinking I needed a few more techs to build that like astromy/navigation. But of course I don't. I think I was mixing it up with the Magellan wonder.

thanks

That should leave it as a fairly straight forward mopping up

How many tiles separate you and the others? If it's only a few you could make a shipchain.
