yer, I quickly invented the tank and crushed japan, although i thought it was something to do with the fact it was a special unit

upgrade
I have another question if you'll induldge me, i was trying to upgrade some of my tanks, and they had all the resources and money and the upgrade button just didnt come up. Why?

AI surely has "random" coificent, when troops fighting each other, a little bit in their favor dont they?:D

No they don't. Just a normal deviation of the odds. Try having hundreds of thousands of examples and then tell us, if that don't conform to expectation. A few hundreds or evn thousands is not much of an sample.

Does anyone know how to prevent (random) C3C Game Crashes, when hitting F1 or F3 keys? (Without frequent "preemptive" game reloading.)

It seems to occur most frequently when:
1. The .SAV is large (this may be coincidental) and
2. A city is abandoned. :)

Most of the ones I run into are from F3. I try to remember to save, before I hit F3. You sooner or later get lazy and then get burned. No idea of the reasons or the cure.

I very rarely have to deal with this crash. It's very frustrating when I do. Usually I don't save before hitting F3, or try to do it at the beginning of my turn. The only time this really frustrates me is when I'm in the middle of a war and have to go back and do all the combat over again.

I guess being lazy and not hitting the F key is a good thing. The F keys are aptly named... Hit F key, crash, say a bad word starting with F, reload all your hard work. I would say using the mouse is better, since I rarely get the crashes from using it.

I get the crash from the Advisors icon on the Main Map screen, also.

It's not so much the crash that pees me of (well not 100%), because I can save the file beforehand......It's that I don't like to re-load a file during an HOF game and replay moves. (...If I forget to save immediately prior to the crash.)

I have recently been trying something similar to what Lord Emsworth suggested......I'm pressing the F6 key and then clicking on the F1 Advisor from that screen......No crash yet..........Just more time-consuming! :)

I've never had any crashes during civilization III games... Only crashes I "experienced" were when I entered industrial age and chose worker/settler (game crashed) or when I got leader and one file was missing. Re-install, patching helped usually...

I've never expirienced such thing, but maybe just take autosave? As far as i know game saves about last 10 turns automatically.

What means 20k game? I've seen it a lot in forums but never had a clue what that means. I always just press new game, choose diffuclty, race and land options and press start;/

There are different victory conditions in the game: Conquest, Domination, Space Ship, Diplomatic, and culture (and this is divided into a 100.000 culture points - whole civilization and 20.000 culture points - one city) and the latter is a 20K victory :)

And just loading an autosave is prohibited if you want to submit your game to the HOF (Hall Of Fame).

Speaking of the HOF, if your game crashes and the nearest save (year-wise) is an autosave, I believe it would be best to reload that, rather than try to replay even more moves from a distant regular game save. (Don't want to put people off from playing HOF games!) :)

Of course not. After joinfing the HOF community I found new motivation in playing C3C. I love the HOF!! :D

I'm with you there 100%!!!........That's why I play Civ.

The HOF is like playing a game of Civ3 where the AI is actually intelligent!.......'cos effectively you're competing against humans!..........a form of "Duplicate Civ"! (Former tournament Bridge player.) :)

Would you not have to use the exact same map to be "duplicate" civ? I sort of like that idea better than who can generate the best map for a specific victory goal.

This would make the results more comparable of course. But I think that is what we have with the GOTM & COTM kind of games.

I find the HOF system more exciting.

...who can generate the best map for a specific victory goal.
It's true that the start position and the Domination Limit (for Histographic games) are very important (we can all use the MapFinder utility).......But, you still have to play the game out....and I think the games in the HOF are pretty informative for less-experienced players. (Viz. Strong players [not just the lucky ones] dominate the top of the HOF Lists.)

The HOF has games in it that have truely stood The Test Of Time! :)
