Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Is there a way you can edit the number of AI civs. For example, is there a way you can play against 20 opponents on a tiny map? Not that I want to do that, I'm looking to play against every other civ on a huge map. Playing PTW by the way. Thanks.

Yo can have 24 in PTW. You would need to create a map in the editor and set the number to 23. You could make a bix to gen random starts. Save the original BIX.

What on earth is a BIX? Cheers though.
Oh, and I've been playing about with the edit thing and generating some maps and is there a way of getting rid of all the tundra and jungle easily? By this I mean is there a way I can do it without doing it manually?

Vanilla uses BIC, PTW BIX and C3C BIQ. These are the holders of the rules for the game. You can use the editor for a given version and generate a map and save it. It will be saved as name.BIX for PTW. Name is what ever you elect to use to denote the file.

It is saved in the scenario folder in C3C and you access it via the Civ-Content. Loading the scenario means it plays with the map you made. The rules you used and the properties. The properties is where you decide how many civs are in the game.

You can copy the BIX into the main folder and replace the default one (need to rename it to match). Then you can generate random maps with your properties and rules.

Right, think I'm sorta with you there. So, I've got to create a map in the editor, then I can change the rules and properties of the game, then how do I make those rules apply to each and every game? Would love to just turn corruption down a bit.

Good shout, will do. Hmmm, back to the previous problem... I've tried generating a map, edited the rules then tried saving it but I can't seem to find or load it when in the game or when just on windows :S

Start by looking in the Scenario folder for the bic you created. When the game loads up you select the map from the button for scenarios in vanilla.

Every time I click save as, then select the scenarios folder then nothing appears - I can't load anything because it's not there! :( Yet if I create a new map in the editor then go to save as, the previous save appears. What on earth is going on!?

I'm playing PTW too by the way.

Well what OS are you running on? Win7 for instance will not let you save to the Program Files X86 folder, unless you are running as Admin. So if you areon Vista or Win7, run the editor as admin.

The bic is probably saved in the user folder someplace. Search for the name you used name.bic and you will find it I would guess. Move it to the scenario folder and then it will load.

If I were to create a map in the editor, is there a way to set my starting point and then make the rest of the computer starting points random?

Yes you gen a map and then you can either use the reassign to name it player1 or select a civ. If you do not like the spot, delete the start location and make a new one where you want it.

This is fairly easy to do in the edit screen. Just tick some buildings as reducing corruption.

Oh, you have to alter your BIX from Read Only before you make the changes and then just close and save. Be sure to put the Read Only tick back when you are done.

Knickers, maybe a wee pic will help:
PTW.jpg

The symbol on the right is the editor, for making a scenario.
A normal game is run from the one on the left. If you make changes there and then attempt to close it, you will be whether you want to save your changes. Answer yes and you've changed your default game. It might be wise to back up your main bix before changing stuff.

Hello everyone, I going to be starting a story soon and am wondering something. Is it possible to post images directly from a computer or do I have to use photobucket or something like it? Any advice would be useful. :thanx:

You can do post them here as long as they met the criteria. Types and sizes, which most pix will.

If you use the upload system here, people have to click on the thumbnails to see them. if you use photobucket (et al) , you can get full sized images in your story.

Just saying... :cowboy:

Once again, :thanx:. I always wondered where those thumbnails came from.

This is weird. I noticed today on the rating for CIV III that it says the game has "Animated Blood." I've never seen that in 6 years of playing it, has anyone ever seen that?
