Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I'm having a wee bit of trouble with deleting saved games in Civ3:Conquest. The saves map is empty, yet ingame I can see my old save games I no longer want. What do I do?>_>

Not sure what you mean by saves map. I am going to guess it is Vista or Win7. If so then in Win7 the game saves into either the save directory associated with the install, IF the game is running as admin.

If it is not running at admin, it will save then in a User folder. Now when you run the game you can load from the User folder as it is associated with the app. You then look in the X86 directory folder for saves and it will be empty. The game is not running as admin and is not allowed the permission to save in the Program Files directory.

Are naval units included when the AI considers the strength of your military? Or does the AI consider only land based units? I realize many players do not build a signficant navy.

Its all units. I think the AI only considers navy units seperately when you are trying to deter their ships from your coast.

Hello once again,

I have some more questions. Today finally I got conquest or more I got Civ3 Complete so I have some questions !

1. Do I need to patch anything else?
2. I saw the data patch and was wondering if everyone uses it?
3. I want to install some graphic mods, can I just replace the files in the directories after backing them up? Will that affect the whole game?
4. I won in regent in vanilla, should I go one level down to see the changes of the game first?

I think that is about it, if I have more questions I will ask.

Complete should have the latest patch. yep just back up then install the mods making sure you get them in the correct folders.

There arent any major changes ..

4. I won in regent in vanilla, should I go one level down to see the changes of the game first?

I would see no reason to go down a level, what is the worst that could happen? You may not win, that is still a way to learn. The game is not all that much different. Many of the changes will not break the game, such as FP is not as effective in C3C as Vanilla.

So what do you guys recommend as mods to use? I know the smiley face mod. But what others? I thought about snoopies terrain mod and the interface mod for the steam punk interface. ( which I installed and did not like so now removed) So any other suggestions?

I would get the better borders mod.

I heartily recommend the 31 colours pallet. it makes it much easier when every civ has its own colour and the colours are better as well. this is my adaptation of an adaptation of Rhye's colours

I have two questions:

1) When I make a map on the map editor in Conquests what should I do so that I can view the cities and have the possibility to build my palace? Or such options are non-existent?

2) When starting a new game, what is the difference between the world age of 3, 4 or 5 million years?

Borders
Metalic Interface
Pop heads
31 civ colors

Any terrain and structure mods as you like.

I love that metalic interface. it is one reason I have not tried to install my C3C (again, yet again) on my Win7. I don't want to lose that... do you know if the .exe works in Win7?

Edit: I found it never mind this post.

@darski: It should work perfectly on windows 7 it works on my dad computer and he has windows 7.

2) When starting a new game, what is the difference between the world age of 3, 4 or 5 million years?

The difference is how many mountains there are and what kind IIRC. The higher the number the more flat terrain. In reality it should be backwards, but that is besides the point. So if you want mostly flat terrain choose 5 billion if you want a massive hill lands then choose 3 billion.

Last edit: Thank you all so much for helping me. I love the different colors!

Yes, those dino's - 12 of them - sit in the PTW extra's folder, with animations and everything complete. It would be logical to think the game developers had made a scenario with them, but they haven't.
They don't fit in the game well at all, even fans haven't used those graphics much in their scenario's.

thanks for the info ; my next problem on this subject is ı don't have them and a search in the downloads section didn't turn up anything . Should ı try reinstalling ?

r16, the downloads section wouldn't have it, because it should be already in the game. I checked, and ordinary PTW has those units (I have PTWGold myself, so I checked the site info). The Dino's should be in Extras>Prehistoric>Art>Units.
When you installed the game, the units will have come with it, but maybe something happened after that, I don't know. A re-install/repair should bring those units back if they somehow got lost.

1) I think the options that you're looking for are there, but if you can't find them by looking at the tabs you should ask this question in our subforum Creation and Customization (I'm not using the editor much myself).
2) 3 million years = young terrain, meaning lots of hills and mountains. 5 million years = old terrain, quite flat. 4 million years is, you can guess, inbetween.

Those units are not in the later packages, such as C3C and complete. I think even gold is missing the extras. There is a download for them, but I forgot where I found it. It use to be on Firaxis, but is not currently, that I could find.

One of the mods has a link to the units, but I am not sure which one.
