Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Yes that is what you would do and you see the AI do that and put a defender on it. Humans will attack the tower defender first, if they are going for the town to reduce the damage they take. At least that is what I do.

On my domination/conquest games I still build multiplier buildings. If I'm planning to research myself, I'll build libraries and uniersities in my productive core and if I'm looking to buy them and need cash for techs and upgrades, rushing I'll build markets and banks. Markets are also very helpful if you intend to have larger cities for the imporved happiness from luxuries.
If you're going for an ancient age blitzkrieg (a feat beyond my limited civ skills) E Man's advice is solid.
Keep in mind your UU may alter your plans- I had a wonderful time playing as the Celts with fast Gallic Swords. No need for horsies there!

My next game, I'll have to try for a fast milatary rush with horsemen.

Hello -

It says: "The Great Wall Wonder doubles the effect of citywalls."
_
a) I my town of 8 pop I can not build any anymore. Do I have artificially to shink so I can built it? The enemy is approaching and I want defense under 7 pop, too.
_
b) Is the automatic citiywall over pop 6 doubled with the The Great Wall wonder?

Walls can only be built in a town and will have no effect in a city or metro. The GW will not put one in, if size 7 or more. It will not double any wall in a size 7 or more as the wall is not active.

There is no reason to drop to size 6 as the city gives bonus to replace the effect of having a wall

Hello - THX vmxa, but

_
say, I build a citywall, when being under 7, now I was 12 pop inbetween , but got bombed down to 6 again, will there be my old wall, or do I have to build it again?

_
Does it make any sense at all to build expensive (60 Shields for one shot, killing maybe only one tiny health point) cruise missles? I was hoping to win some space and time with them, but they are awful. How to use them?

_
When I am in debt, no money , minus money, the adviser used to kill one barracks and a worker. Now he always takes my good artitallies away. One what factor does that depend?

sins

The wall is there, unless you sell it, which I usually do. I make a few cruise missile, should the game last that long. I use them on boats that have been pinged or very rarely on a unit that is on a mountain that is red lined and I do not want to expose my units. IOW I could send a cav, but it will be stuck on the mountain and could attacked and I do not expect to use the missile later.

I never looked at the formula that is used. I don't let that happen. I would guess that, it is looking at the items that have zero defense and figures it can afford to lose that one.

I've played for a while, learned at lot from the forum. Thanks all!

My question is, what is the effect of AI being at Pleased or Gracious, besides having them vote me into the U.N.? Are they less likely to declare war, or is there another benefit? I know in CivIV, some civs don't declare at pleased and none will at the equivalent of gracious.

I think that with a happier attitude the probability of demands goes down, as well as the probability of a declaration of war if a demand gets refused, as well as the probability of the AI declaring on you. I don't know of any definitive tests that tell us this for sure though.

I'm unable to switch from my University prebuild into Smith's Trading Company. Smith's is 'greyed out" in my production queue, but no other town is building it. Am I missing something?

Thx!
HFD

edit: I just upgraded from Vanilla to CQ, is this a new rule in CQ?

Crap, yeah, I've been clearing forest by that city, even knowing the 10 shields were lost.

Thx for the response!

If you already start a wonder and then chop the shields will not go to that town. You either chopped while something else was being made and switched or disbanded prior to the wonder. Neither chop nor disbanded shields would be added, if the wonder was already started.

This is something I've been wondering for quite awhile now:

After you've gone "nuke happy" and the terrain begins to degrade, can you stop that and turn back the clock so to speak? Or will the degrading of terrain keep happening indefinitely?

Hello -

When I stand with my troups in enemy terriory. Will I get WWP for staying in enemy territory, or will my opponent get WWP, because I stand in his territory?

Does a City, free square, City, free square, City row (CxCxC) protect me better for culture flipps? I am republic and my opponent is rich and is building in my territory and is buying in every move some buldings.

Greeting fellows Civ3 PTW 1.21f players.

You will get war weariness.

CxCxC spacing will not help prevent flips, except that it may help keep your opponent from owning tiles in the fat cross of your cities, which does help prevent flips.

I know if I break a gpt trade it will hurt my reputation. But if I accept a peace treaty to loot the opposing AI's tech and gold, then next turn redeclare war to finish wiping him out, does that hurt my rep?

Thx!

No, not necessarily. You can import a luxury/resource from an AI by paying them gpt, cut the trade route to your capital, and it won't hurt your reputation. The exporter bears the responsibility of supplying the goods. However, if you export a luxury/resource it will.

Yes it does.
