But, as I said, some techs will never get sold. Anybody have ideas or comments about tech buying?
Tip for Warmongers (Disregard THIS Tip if you think RoP Rape is "Unsportsmanlike" ):

If you don't mind declaring war this turn (or within a few turns), change ALL your laborers to Taxmen....this will give you lots of gpt.....usually enough to pay gpt to an AI Civ for the Tech you want.

Then declare war on them; you get your gpt back!; reset the laborers to their prior work orders! Result: FREE Tech!! ;)

And a trashed reputation for breaking a GPT deal.

But if you don't care about rep, then this would work.

They are optional techs. They aren't needed to move onto the next age. All other techs are.

For example: Literature isn't required to go to the Middle Ages, but Map Making (which does not have a crossed out circle) is. :)

ooh okay. thanks.

I have another question.
How come I can't upgrade my units in a city that I captured 3 turns ago. The city is on another continent, but it has all resources in the city box, and there are no resisters.
I upgraded most of the units in my homeland, but the new town (size 2) just won't.
Is there something that i am overlooking?

Oh that's what i overlooked.

No, there's no barracks. It's the only town without one, since I have Sun Tzu's War Academy on the other continent.
Guess I'll have to buy a barracks.
Thanks.

Like TimBentley said, you need a barracks. Also, do you have enough gold to upgrade? In vanilla civ and Play the World, it's the shield difference between the two units times 2. In Conquests, it's times 3.

edit: Crossposted, but the info still applies. :)

I have another stupid question.

This time I have a screen capture: http://www.geocities.com/pokerhermit2/thatsmysilk.jpg

That's the hub of my continent where the four countries come together. Me (Japan) and India are the powerhouses. Kolhapur has defected back to India twice now, so I guess I'll have to wipe out their whole civilization. Then I'll have to go overseas to wage war on Egypt, the "real" world power.

But anyway, my question is just about one square on that map.
See the worker above the mountain above Bangalore? The tile he is working has silk. It's within my border and it has a road on it.
So why don't my cities have silk?

I'm probably missing something obvious again.

This is the last question. I swear. I don't want monopolize this thread.

oh yeah.
first place i shoulda looked would be trade advisor huh?
I'll get the hang of it yet.

I actually had two sources of silk and I was trading both of them away.
Now to decide if I want to cancel the 14 gpt deal to the French, who I care nothing about. Or the 18 gpt deal to the Greeks, who I dragged into my war against Egypt.

thats not another question. just wondering out loud.

thanks again.

All Knowing AI

I've read a couple of posts on strategies involving multiple points of attack with one attack going in first to draw off the enemy forces prior to launching the attack on the second front. However, I've also read that the AI knows the location of all your forces (among other things) even if they are in hidden in the FOW prior to attacking.

Sooo, is there any point in the subtlety? I'm only playing on Warlord so I may not be facing enough units yet, but so far I haven't seen much of a difference (though tactically it makes perfect sense). As a side note, this would seem to make subs pretty much useless too.

Edit:
Second question

Are city improvements that boost shield production cumulative? What about the ones the boost factory production?

Yes. The AI "knows", BUT plays as though it doesn't!! :crazyeye:
Example: AI will pay you for World Maps even though it "knows" every tile and unit on the Map! ;)

No...And....No. :)
Example: You have 2 city improvements that increase shield production in your "12-shield" Capital city by 50%. It will produce 24 shields.
"Simple Interest" ONLY my friend.....Not "Compound Interest"! ;)
(Same goes for commerce production.)

To the first question, yes, there is a point to the subtlety. Although the AI knows where everything is, it isn't very smart. If you send a smaller force and attack a city, virtually every unit marked as an offensive unit that can get there will and will attack.

To the second, no. Presume you have a city that produces 10 uncorrupted shields. With a factory (+50%), it produces 15 shields. With a coal plant (also +50%) it will produce 20 shields. The nice thing about this system is that you can add percentages together to get the total and not worry about how 50% of 150 is 75, etc. With the above example, you can simply add and get a total of +100% to realize you will get a total of 20 shields.

1) What is "Mfg. Goods" which stands in the F11 page?

2) How much land mass is it in the different map sizes (number of square miles)?

3) Is it people or programmes that have made the random maps?

Thanks

3) Hey! Programmers are people too! :mischief: But, both, generally. Which amps are you referring to?

Thanks
 Sorry I didn't mean programmers, but programs, hehe...
What is the different between Mfg. Goods and Pruductivity then?

And BTW, in DA; what is "from interest"?

Total unwasted commerce and shields plus total excess food. Here's an article on the whole F11 screen

Oh, and are you just wanting to know where the random maps when you start a 'New Game' come from? They're made by the computer every time. In C3C you get the 'World seed' option, which tells you the 'random' number for that map which gives the computer overall information about the map, which are then modified by your world settings. If you put in the same number and settings, you will get the same map geographically.

Interest can only be generated by Wall Street. It makes 5% of your current treasury every turn to maximum of 50gpt, so once you get it strive to keep your treasury at 1000+ to take full advantage.

Hi i am new to this (or any) forum, so forgive me if i overstep some etiquettes, i am however a great fan of CIV, despite the fact it is destroying my life. i have a few questions;

1)playing Regicide is it possible to take a civs king (or queen) without destroying the capital
2)why do civs when down to their last warrior up against a massive attacking army on their doorstep never think of slipping their king out the backdoor to another safer city-this can't be difficult thing to programme.

Generally speaking, yes, but if you're playing against the AI it won't move its king, so no. As such, do not play reg., elim., and CtP with the AI. It was not designed for these victory conditions and does not cope well. They are intended for multiplayer.

See above.
