it's better forest, until you devolp rails, then it's equal. you can start planting forests when you research engineering

Is it possible to get MGLs when defending? I have seen the AI get them on numerous occasions, but it has never happened to myself... If so, are the chances the same as if you were attacking?

1 MGL in 32 victories defending, 1 in 16 attacking. 1 in 24 with HE defending, 1 in 12 attcking.

Is that clearer?

last\first time i got a MGL from a defence,it was a numidian mercenary(12 in all) that got buried under a SOD of 60+ swordsmen(its ok,i killed em all 2 turns later  )

I got one from a calvary once. That was my second or third MGL ever. I played a more peaceful game then, and was very upset when my calvary was defeated and I lost my MGL.

So one for me out of thousands of elite defensives. :(

Yeah, usually the MGL ends up dying. :(

EDIT: Cataphract, your sig is too long.

why?

Keep your signature brief.
This forum has a signature feature that allows you to "sign" your posts with a customized block of text. However, large signatures that take up more than 5 lines are not permitted. Everyone would agree that people are much more interested in reading your ideas than looking at your signature. It's annoying to see posts that have signatures that are much bigger than the messages in the post. Please keep your signature brief.

Note: The limit is based on 1024x768 screen resolution and size 2 font size.

all right.i will change it.i just never noticed that rule

Technically, his sig is only 3 lines, but between the "quote" box and the extra large :spear: smiley, it is pushing our informal "vertical size limit". ;)

Cataphract: If I were you I would drop the "quote" tags, and just leave the text standing alone.

Edit: or drop the smiley. That works too. :D

Here's a quick question. If you have two Galleys in a stack, but one has a Settler (the other is defending it). Is there anything that will determine which unit a Barbarian Galley will attack first?

But what if they are the same? Is there any consideration to what units are inside?

Not for ships. I *think* if they are both the same defense, the one on top of the stack defends, or maybe it's the one on the bottom..., or maybe it's the one with the most expensive units. I'd bet on the last if I were you and always use a veteran ship to protect your regular transport vessel.

Yeah, I guess that's the best situation (aside from clearing the path with an attack).

I guess its just the nature of the game until Galleys and Frigates (part of the reason I wish they would expand the naval side of the game, even before modern times).
