For victory points. You must've had victory points win condition enabled by accident. It's in some Conquests scenarios like WWII, Napoelean, and maybe others.

In a RoR game, I have a stack of bombardment units beside a city with walls that are provided by Hadrian's Wall. Am I wasting my time bombarding this city? They are Legion III's defending behind walls, but I find it hard to believe that eight Fire Catapults would miss in a row, plus it didn't say "Artillery bombardment failed" or anything like that. Any help would be appreciated.

The white obelisk. I've never seen it before.

As soon as I capture one city of a civ, all of that civ's cities are destroyed.....
Seems buggy to me!

Edit: So, I've been playing all day, just to learn this is screwed up game :( .

That's the "elimination" mode.

edit: cross-posted with edit :crazyeye:

So, in elimination-mode (I never clicked that option) you capture one ciry, and then all are destroyed????????????????

That doesn't make sense!

The game options are set when you start a new game.

You may have to "un-check" the Elimination option.

There are Bugs.....but they're not that simple...and most are them are, shall we say, DEBATEABLE!!! (viz. Firaxis may say they fixed all the bugs with the latest patches!) :)

It's called "Regicide" on the game setup screen. If you are just learning, make sure you click "Default Rules" to clear the odd stuff when starting a game.

As has been mentioned, if you have Conquests, some of the scenarios have victory points and regicide as the default rules.

This is more of a technical problem, most likely a computer error but if anyone has been experiencing a similar quandrary, hopefully they will be able to assist me with this egrarious malfunction.
I recently deleted Civilization Two from my hard drive (I got bored with it and needed to free up some space for some new work programs). Well, now I wish to play it again and it is not cooperating. When I click on the Civ2 file name, nothing happens. However, if I right click the icon and select "Explore" or "Open" the folder will open. But, when I click on the "SETUP" icon , no matter what I try, it will not work. Just that. Nothing happens. No "Error #214262626" or Blue Screen of Death. Just nothing, which is even more frustrating because I can identify my problem. I've spent hours trying to fix this, and with my work schedule, I will not be able to spend any more time on it. Thank you if anyone is wise enough to answer this question.

For the record, I have Windows XP, but two previous times I have installed the game with not problems what so ever. Thanks again.

You might have better luck asking your question at the Civ 2 Forum. :)

Vanilla native, just got C3CE, still getting the hang of it, and probably displaying my ignorance. Please help.

I saved a leader from a prior war to rush Leo's Workshop, but it wouldn't let me rush, I only got the option to create army. I tried doing it in a different city, didn't help. Tried starting from zero shields in a city that had just completed a unit, didn't help. Gave up in disgust, moved the leader to the city nearest my culture front to create an army. Said city happened to be building Forbidden Palace, and lo and behold, I could rush it! Long story short, after some fiddling, I figured out that I could rush small wonders but not great wonders. What the hell?

In conquests, MGLs (Military Great Leaders) can no longer rush great wonders. SGLs (Scientific Great Leaders) can. You get a SGL by being the first to learn a new tech. When you are the first, there is a 3% chance (5% for Scientific civs) of getting an SGL. And SGLs can stack. That's the good news. The bad news is, while you're holding a SGL, you can't get a MGL.

MGLs can still rush small wonders (okay for FP) and improvements.

Only Scientific Great Leaders can rush great wonders in Civ3Conquests. Military great leaders only rush small wonders. But armies are much more powerful in C3C so it makes up for it IMO.

Still no answer per se, but I apparently destroyed the "walls", granary and barracks this turn. A dozen fire catapults never did any damage to a unit, however.

As has been mentioned, if you have Conquests, some of the scenarios have victory points and regicide as the default rules.

In Regicide, each player gets a King unit, corresponding to the civ leader; if that unit is killed the civ is out of the game, all cities vanish.
In Mass Regicide, each player gets a bunch of kings, when they're all killed the civ is out of the game etc.,
In Elimination, you just have to capture one city, any city, and the civ is out of the game etc.,
They're options designed to give faster multiplayer games (and the AI cannot comprehend them) but they are set for some of the Conquests scenarios and will be set for the next "new game" you start after playing one of these.
IIRC (and I may be wrong) if you choose "default rules" it includes Wonder Victory, wherein the game finishes as soon as the last great winder is built and whoever is in the lead on the Histograph is the winner.

Probably my longest post yet :)

Hi all,
when I choose a civilization I get to start in a random location on the worldmap. For instance, if I choose to be a Roman I don't start in Italy -as it happened in civ 2- but in Australia or North America or wherever.
Would you know how I can fix this problem? How can I start in Italy if I am a Roman or in North America if I am an American?
Thanks a lot!

In the editor, right click on the starting location and select Reassign. Click on the third option, and manually assign the civ to start there.

In the User Created Maps section, you'll probably find a world map with accurate starting locations.
