Is it on this image? I don't see what you are looking for. Perhaps they just made a drawing of a soldier or something and put it on the the cover - not everything on the cover is in the game. :)

I am reposting this so that it might be answerd. On the BACK of my civ3 gold was a picture of a guy on the ground with a machine gun with a guy standing next to him it looked like it was from ww1 or ww2ish
mabee it is in one of the scenarios I dont Know someone please!! step forward

If the guy had a ground mounted machine gun, then I'd think it might have been the War in the Pacific scenario. I'd check out that one and look at the civilipedia under units to see if that's the unit you had in mind.

Civ3 Gold is PTW. It's probably more of a representation of units in the game. (knight, infantry, swordsman).

I don't see the machine gun..

On the Back cover ... I see the unit it is directly under the top picture which shows a group of Yankee soldiers behind a stone wall.

The units you are describing looks like a mult-unit WWII? german helmets with red on backpacks and arm bands (probably Civ colour).

So I would open all scenarios and look in civilpedia under units ... goodluck
Oh Post what you find out :goodjob: I'm curious but too lazy to search myself :p

BTW My box is plastic and was a 2 CD Box Set.

Speaking of graphics, is there a graphics program, other than Sn00py, which clearly shows the difference between Forest & Jungle on the Map Screen?

They're the only FIRAXIS graphics I reeeeally want to change! :)

Do you not like Sn00py's Forest and Jungle? Or do you not want to use the full graphics mod? In that case you might be able to just substitute the .pcx files (I think).

Pretty sure that's right. You just need to make sure which file is which, and then change it.

Make sure you back it up, in case you want to go back to the original.

Ok I'm having a blonde moment and have misplaced my list telling me how many years there are per turn. Please will someone post them here. I know it's 50 ypt at first but can't remember when that changes

An answer ... its near the end of the "CivIII Info centre" page off the home page. It says :

Period Years Per Turn Turns
4000 BC - 2750 BC 50 25
2750 BC - 1750 BC 40 25
1750 BC - 750 BC 25 40
750 BC - 250 AD 20 50
250 AD - 1250 AD 10 100
1250 AD - 1750 AD 5 100
1750 AD - 1950 AD 2 100
1950 AD - 2050 AD 1 100

Now a question : Can anybody point me to a summary of how the CivIII game engine cycle works - what is calculated first, second, third, ... (eg. production, population growth, research, etc.) and how it is done (eg. all for 1 civ at a time, or each type for all civs).

I ask because I had a game where I researched Maths and on the turn before completing it, nobody else (6 other civs) knew it. When I contacted civs in the turn after I had the "what to research next" popup, everyone had it and there were 4 new civs who appeared on my diplo screen.

Out of curiosity and on someone's advice I pulled up the autosave and made contact when I got the research pop-up via the "show me the big picture" option and lo ! Nobody else but me had maths and the 4 new contacts had not appeared yet.

So I am confused. What happens in what order and to who in this game ?

[pre] 4000 BC to 2750 BC - 25 turns, 50 years per turn
2710 BC to 1750 BC - 25 turns, 40 years
1725 BC to 750 BC - 40 turns, 25 years
730 BC to 250 BC - 50 turns, 20 years
260 BC to 1250 AD - 100 turns, 10 years
1255 AD to 1750 AD - 100 turns, 5 years
1752 AD to 1950 AD - 100 turns, 2 years
1951 AD to 2050 AD - 100 turns, 1 year per turn

I believe this is accurate - - -

I was wondering about culture and captured wonders. In my last game playing on emporer, I had to capture most of the wonders from the first two eras. Some of them gave me culture points, some gave money, and some gave happiness. I would have guessed that they all gave at least culture per turn. What is the rule on this? Does it have to do with the wonder being obsolete? If it was mine to start with it would continue to give culture past being obsolete, right?

Under default rules you never get culture form captured wonders, and wonders you build still give culture when they're obsolete.

Both! :)

Well I don't mind Sn00py's graphics.......BUT, even there the difference between Jungle & Forest is not that distinct!......Now, if (Winter) Forests were Brown Trees and Jungles were Green Trees....that would be great!

So, I was wondering if anyone else had specifically addressed this issue? (OR would like to? Pretty Please.) :)

Just a quick question here.
The sit:

Deity game.
England.
Archi - 60% water (I think).
Alone on a reasonably good island.
In monarchy - have tech lead on all civs, one or two techs at least.
I am thinking of filling the island and going for a middle aged war, and GA.

So... The main issue:

Got monarchy of the phil-freebie... and I got a SGL of it!
So what to do with the SGL??
Artemis or Lighthouse or TGL?

Since I got a tech lead I didnt really consider the TGL to be optimal. Artemis gives happiness, but we can trade lux with others already. We only have furs ourselves.

Suggestions?

Cheers.
JJ

Hello JJ! BTW I pm'd you.
Wouldn't the lighthouse make sense for the extra movement between islands so you can conquest the luxs instead?

@whomp Well, I am not sure about the lighthouse...
(I am checking out that SG.)

Any other takes on this?

Program files, find the Atari folder, go to the civiii or conquests folder (IIRC), find "Saves" then move the one you want to delete onto your desktop and put in the the trash. Bye bye file.

tomasjj: I would wait for something useful like Sistine's Chapel or Sun Tzu's Art of War. Sistine's Chapel is nice, especially if you don't have many luxuries, and since this is an archipelago, and Sun Tzu's only gives barracks on the continent, it may not be of as much use.
