No, the number is red number when the city is starving, that is less food than needed.

Bombardment is so powerfull that some people wont use large stacks of artillery because it ruins the game. The great advantage with them is that there is no risk of losing.

But this depends on difficult level. They are very good on hard levels where you often have to fight AIs that outnumber you. On easy level I guess they are less usefull.

What good is bombardment? So far it just seems that theyve taken the early powerful attack units (catapult, cannon), and made them totally useless! At best they take one hp off, but most of the time nothing happens. It doesnt even say they missed, just....nothing happens! And also, what does the bombard figure mean? Does something with a higher bombard number take of more than one HP? Or......or what??
They are awesome in numbers. You can redline a few units and kill them with no casualties. The bombard number is accuracy, basically, and the rate of fire is the max hits.

Give me 100 artillery and some Cavalry, and I'll give you the world. :)

A 4/4 Veteran Cavalry has a 67.5% chance of winning against a 1 HP Infantry that is fortified in a city on grassland/floodplain/tundra/plains. Artillery and Cavalry / Tanks are probably the easiest and least casulty wars you'll ever fight, if you have good amounts of artillery.

Which program should I use to edit the CIV.exe file?

Tried Visual basic and V C++ but it doesn't work with those two.

I'm no programmer obviously, but as I'm only trying to change the sumerian leader flic, I should be able to do it without some programming knowledge.

...I hope.

And I'm not making any scenario or anything, I know that for the scenarios this can be changed in the editor.

You don't need to edit the Civilization.exe file! You just have to (first backup, then) replace the Sumerian leaderhead's files with the ones you want. The Sumerian leaderhead's .flc files are in the C:/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization III/Conquests/Art/Flics/, and named "X2_Gilgamesh_...", where ... is more words, such as Ancient_bwrd, etc. However, you'll also need to change the .pcx files for Gilgamesh in the ../Conquests/Art/leaderheads/ folder if you want a complete reformation.

PS: Visual Basic and Visual C++ aren't supposed to load .exe files. You can try editing the Civ exe file with a hex editor, but even then it is hard to understand as it has been patched over so many times. That won't even work for your purpose, either.

Try looking in the Creation and Customization's Tutorial forum for a tutorial on this, though.

Replacing the flic won't help because the exe file has some bug in it and it won't load the flic.
That's why i want to edit the exe file.
Probably it's a path error.

I doubt that there's anything wrong with the flic.

but thanks anyway, i'll try the hex editor

You have to name the file the same as it was!!

What is the error message? Editing the exe won't do a bit of good for you! The path name is written in MANY places, and by changing one you might have to change something here, then here, etc, and cause a change reaction of things. Don't edit the exe file. All you have to do is something simple; rename the files you want the names the current ones have and place them over the ones in the file. The exe has no bug with flcs; it will show an error message unless you name them right.

unfortunately the hex editor did'nt help either.

so i'll just have to pretend that there are no sumerians in the game....

Ginger, you misunderstood me.
I didn't nor did i intend to rename any file.

the flic file is ok, the problem is that the game can't read it.
so i assumed that it cannot find it because the path is spelled wrong in the exe file. or something like that.
i don't want to replace the original flic, i just want to be able to see it.

but it doesn't matter, i'm playing ancient meditteranean at the moment, i'll just replace assyrians (who are using the flic that the game can't find) with the macedonians/dacians/troians/saba...people/berbers or some barbs.

Or someone knows how to change the flic that a civilization (n this case assyrians) is using for the diplomacy screen in the editor?

when i change the animation at the "edit rules/civilizations/animation" it affects only the screen at the start of the game where you choose your civ.

Okay, my biggest problem now is...Corruption!

Now on my CivII corrpution was never a problem, due to democracy, which i practically stayed in all game.

But here....im avoiding democ. due to bad things ive heard about it, but under anything else, corruption is ridiculous! Ive got size 6 cities, that are making 10 shields a turn, but 9 are out for corruption! Ive build courthouses, and i could see no difference whatsoever. Ive got forbidden palace, and that helped the local area a bit, but what about when you take over a city on another continent?

Is it just that corruption is much more a problem here in Civ III, or am i doing something wrong?

And thanks for the bombard info! Ive never really thought of attacking in masses...but then, im not on hard difficulties yet! :king:

Corruption is basically a fact of life in Civ 3, so you just have to deal with it. The corruption difference between Republic and Democracy isn't that big.

Here are ways you can reduce your corruption:

- Building the Forbidden Palace
- If you have a big empire, in C3C, communism will do you a lot of good.
- In C3C, communism allows the SPHQ
- Courthouses and Police Stations are effective in semi corrupt cities, but not fully corrupt cities.
- Closer city spacing

So, in Vanilla, taking cities on other continents is pretty much a waste of time? Ive now got about 5 cities during a takeover spell, and most of them are like 15 shields, with 14 gone to corruption, meaning they cant make anything worthwhile...

And each city you take is one city the AI doesn't have.

Makes sense, i guess...

Btw, it is possible to do OCC's with Civ III?

Also, im wondering how its possible to get quicker advances here, since you cant use caravans to get a beaker boost?

Sure, you can do OCCs. Might have to do it slightly different because it's vanilla instead of conquests, but yes you can.

As far as getting quicker advances, trade trade trade with the AI. You will get to the point where you have so much GPT from them that you'll make a ton of money and get an advance every four turns. The higher the level, the better it works. At lower levels, the AI tends to not have as much cash.

another new question what is the point of gold??
most of the time im usually broke with about -400 income, this is probally bad but I dont see any direct consequences besides that annoying ladie who pops up all the time

Gold is used for rushing city improvements, a bartering tool, but mainly id say for diplomatic stuff. You cant make an embassy without gold, nor perform any diplomatic/espionage missions.

Gold is more important in this game than any civ so far!

You're playing Cheiftain, aren't you? There's no penalty for going below 0 gold in Cheiftain, but when you get to Warlord or above, you start loosing a unit and an improvement every turn you're loosing money and have 0 gold.
