I'll see if I still have a save of b4 going democrat.... am not sure... I usualy only have 2-3 saves for each game.... 1 for peace time, 1 for war time and 1 for b4 GA.... I'll look though.

>>> Stupid should hurt

Nope... My earliest save is about 15-20 turns after switching to democrat.

Did you add a lot of cities after switching to demo? Even if you added captured cities, your other cities could get more corruption because of thier ranking.

I have a few questions about city spacing. I was having major troubles in my games as soon as I switched to Regent difficulty. I switched from OCP to CxxxC.... it helped a lot but in later ages my cities never got above 20-21 population. I don't know about anyone esle but I liked having cities of 30+ population that could produce Modern Armor and Mech Inf in 1-2 turns. Now the most developed cities I have close to the capital are able to produce that in 4-6 turns (max of 4). I've only had a couple of games so far that I could get to the last age in Regent level (lots more that I got wiped out b4 the 3rd age  ) but when I was playing my last game as Greeks I had tons of cash, lots of land, but none of my cities could produce GW's or high cost improvements without a big wait. Doesn't the smaller (CxxC, ICS) grouping of cities hurt in the GW races and Space Race? I have wondered about CxxC spacing and abandoning the mid cities at the later ages but am not sure if I should. I know it has been tried b4 and wanted to get more input from all the experts.

Thanks for all the help here at civ fanatics... :goodjob:

>>> Definition: Expert (ex) an unknown quantitiy.... (spert) a drip under pressure..... ;)
I suppose that makes me a super expert from all of the civ's that were beating on me in regent level...

Corruption is basically a fact of life in Civ 3, so you just have to deal with it. The corruption difference between Republic and Democracy isn't that big.

Here are ways you can reduce your corruption:

- Building the Forbidden Palace
- If you have a big empire, in C3C, communism will do you a lot of good.
- In C3C, communism allows the SPHQ
- Courthouses and Police Stations are effective in semi corrupt cities, but not fully corrupt cities.
- Closer city spacing

In my game playing the Greeks I had no more cities when I switched to Democrat.... That is why I was confused when some of my cities started having a real problem with coruption..... wait a minute.... right after I switched to Democracy my FP got completed.... it was far to the West and improved the cities around it a lot but the cities that were moderately south of the capital (and doing ok on corruption) started to really suck. Is this because of the city rating equation that I saw that relates a city's distance from the Capital and distance from the FP? I tried to test the equation once or twice but each time I had only a couple of cities moderatly close to the capital and goruped a lot of cities around a far flung FP it didn't seem to really be worth it. (even without going over the Optimum # of cities)

First of all, a city can only work 21 tiles, including the city center. So once your city is size 20, the extra citizens become specialists, and won't really help your city at all. So it's better to have size 20 with mined grassland than size 30 with irrigated grassland. The terrain also has a big effect. You can't expect to get Modern Armors every 1 - 2 turns. Since they cost 120 shields, you should be able to get them in at least 3 turns, or 40 spt in your cities. (That's 20 shields per turn in a railroaded city pre-factory and coal/hydro plant, not too hard to get).

ICS is CxC, not CxxC. What some people do is do ICS in the early age, get lots of land, and when it goes farther in the game, disband the middle city; for example: CxCxCxCxC becomes CxxxCxxxC, allowing for greater tile useage and more production. The main point of ICS though, is for domination or conquest, an early win. Most people don't do an ICS space race. ;)

is there a way to edit things such as when a civilization gets access to its UU and use it as the default everytime you play a new random map game? kinda like how you could edit the rules.txt file in civ II. if so how would I do that?

What do you mean by "get access"? All the editting you do with Civ III is done in the editor that comes with the game.

yes but from what I understand you have to make a map, or generate a random one, then when you edit the advance requred to aquire a UU and save it that it saves just for that map. then how do you play that map. OR is the change made to the entire game every time you start a new game. Obviously I dont have much experiance with this editor and I am going to explore it further but answers to these questions would help greatly. thanks.

If you leave the map blank, the game will generate a random map in the game.

Thanks.... That clears up a few questions I've had for some time while I was browsing through the war academy. I thought ICS was CCCCCCC and was wondering what the point was in doing this since the cities would only be able to use the center city square (except for the outer cities) and probably never grow beyond size 1-2. Your sugestion for CxCxC and disbanding later on in the game was a thought I was having but have not yet put it to the test. Every since I started using a closer city spacing I have used CxxC on my center cities around the capital with all the tiles worked to help with settler production... once I get beyond the 2nd ring of cities I tend to space out alittle more so I can get to the AI's borders and close off his expansions efforts.... Of course sometimes this leads to a nice little war that helps my own expansion :D .

Thanks again....

>>> C3C and I have a Love->Hate->Love->etc relationship.... I love it until I go to the next difficulty level then it's back to hating it..... Then I learn more (if a bit slowly and reluctantly) and I begin to love it again. If only I could get my mind to accept suggestions faster. I had to loose 20+ games at regent level b4 I tried closer city spacing... :mischief:

It's not possible to do CCCCC since cities can't be built next to each other...

One other quick questions that I have. Does anyone know how much of a corruption bonus the comercial trait gives? I know that they get the bonus commerce in the city sq in cities and metros but this doesn't help all that much unless you get to later in the game and have a fairly big country... I've tested a few different civs with & witout the Commerce trait and until you get 7+ size cities and quite a few of them it doesn't seem to be that big of a help... Going republic seems to give a lot bigger commerce bonus to all civs than the commerce trait.
Hence my Q: about the corruption efffect.... lately I've been playing comercial/scientific (greeks/Korea) civs but I really miss the militaristic trait... yes I do get Aristotle now and then to help with the wonders I really want/need but I still remember fondly all the GLs I had when playing China/Germany/Aztecs.... My last game with the greeks I never got a GL from combat. (I finally got my FP finished when I was able to create enginerrs to help it along :( .)

Thanks again in advance for all the advice from the other fanatic out there.... :goodjob:

Commercial trait gives you a OCN that's 25% higher. That's the number of cities you can get before getting extreme corruption.

MGLs can't rush wonders.

MGLs can't rush wonders...? Can't they rush FPs? I think I has used them before on the FP.... I don't know maybe my memory is starting to develop bad sectors...

<<<ERROR>>> (A)bort, (R)etry, (P)anic

FP isn't a great wonder. I was referring to great wonders.

Can someone explain the OCN to me? Is it the cities above and beyond that get the corruption, or is it that all your cities get greater corruption when you exceed the OCN?

Cities above and beyond the number suffer the extra corruption.

It only affects all cities when you have communal corruption in a government like Communism.

Let's say there are three AI civs in the game as follows:

Civ#1 culture at 25K
Civ#2 culture at 50K
Civ#3 culture at 75K

and our civ culture is currently at 100K. Quick Question/Confirmation: Assuming that the culture requirement is set at 100K on stardard map size, if we are going to completely destroy/eliminate Civ#2 and Civ#3, we will immediately trigger the 100K culture victory, right?

Yes, that's right, the 100K would then trigger. I've had this happen to me, except where the AI had more than 100K, I eliminated Civ #3, and promtly lost! I've got a little better at Civ since then though ;) (and more modest too!).
