Welcome to CFC cangue :band:.

You need to turn off the "Elimination" option on the Player Setup Screen (the 2nd one) when you start a new game.

You are playing with Elimination on!

If any city falls, the civ who owns it will be destroyed. Applies for you as well as the AI.

Toggle elimination off on the same screen as you choose your civ.

Edit: xposted with Dianthus.

Check the victory conditions. It sounds like "elimination" is checked. With elimination, any time a player loses a city, they're out of the game.

OOOPS -- somebody beat me to it

Question: Once you establish a leader in a city ("Fortified" him once), even if you haven't used him, can you move him to a new city to rush an improvement (Harbor) there?

I want to get the jump on Saltpeter, but it will take 56 turns to build a harbor on this distant island where I found it (Damn corruption! I've sent 8 workers there, planting and harvesting trees, etc. and it still won't budge. I even "Joined" a Settler to the city!). I was saving a leader in my capitol city. Can I ship him to the island (18 turns - I have Magellan's Voyage) and have him jump start the harbor?

You can move leaders anywhere, any time, and use them for whatever they are good for. Go for it . . . .

But using a leader for a harbor is such a waste, not to mention taking 18 turns to get there. You should rush the harbor using gold instead.

Switch your government to Monarchy or Republic if you haven't already, then gather enough gold by lowering your science for a turn or selling something to the AI. Last, right click on your city, and pick "hurry production".

Question: In the Trade Advisor screen in the bottom right it shows you which resources other civs can offer to you in trade. So for example it might show that the Germans can offer horses to you and that the Persians can offer iron to trade with you. But it doesn't show the reverse, i.e. which resources you can offer to other specific civs. Is there a way to have it show this? Or is the only way to find this out to contact every civ and see what they have?

The F4 Screen is the only way I know how to do this......unless you're using the CRpMapStat utility! :)

Quick question. What are all the ranking in civ 3 and what's the score to get each ranking respectively? thanks

Does anyone know how to initiate a tech-stealing attempt via embassy in vanilla civ? I'm lost without my diplo screen.

Renata

Control + E (or Shift + E, I always get confused -- the Espionage screen is what I want). Then, choose the Civ, then Embassy, then Steal Tech and the right cost you want.

I haven't played Vanilla in a while, so the other of things might be wrong, but from my memory, that is the way to do it.

(disclaimer: haven't played vanilla for a looong time as well;))

IIRC you could also double left click [or single right click :hmm:] either your capital star icon or the rival star icon. (Just click on the stars untill a pop-up appears, lol.:))
If you have a spy in place as well, there's another dialogue wether to use spy or diplomat. (IIRC!)

Thanks to you both!

Renata

@ainwood: Pardon my faux pas!.....CivAssist, of course...thanks for reminding me......need to look at Your utility again! :)

I usually go to the Foreign Advisor, to the Trade-screen and just hold the mouse over each leader. You will now be able to read if there is something you can trade to him/her.
I hope that you will understand my poor explanation. :)

Thanks Pigalle :)

I read somewhere in this websight that you could land in the artic if you know how I am dying for someone to tell me!!

I think someone has created a mod that allows you to land there.
You should check the mod page.
