When building a settler and shipping him off to build a new city - this lowers the cities size by 1 doesn't it??

Just curious as I was using a city to make settlers, and then before I knew it, it went from a 10 to a 1.... I assume this was the reason? Now that I have stopped it is increasing about 1 point every three turns

settlers use up 2 population and add 2 to an existing city, or create a size 1 city (so consuming one pop - but you work the centre tile for free, so you get the same number of worked tiles either way)

workers take one pop and add one when joined to a city.

Workers subtract/add one population point when created/joining in a city.

How does one take out the turn limit. I know it's a function within Civ3Edit but can't find it no matter how closely I look.

Select "Scenario Properties" from the "Scenarios" menu, it should look somthing like this...

All the turn options are at the bottom. Note that PTW and vanilla Civ3 will be slightly different, but not much...

Question: Having built Hoover Dam, every city on my continent that has a water source (fresh or salt) has a Hydro Plant. This includes both lakes and coastal waters. Am I getting any benefit from the Hydro Plants in lakes and coastal waters?

Hoover Dam gives every single city the benefit of a hydro plant, regardless of whether the city qualifies or not for a 'normal' hydro plant. The hydro plant shown is to remind you of this. Whether the city has the required water no longer matters - it could be 21 tiles of desert and the hydro plant would still 'work'

Actually building a hydro plant (or a solar or coal) in any city on that continent is now pointless.

Once you have Hoover only a nuclear plant will increase the city production further - all other power plants are rendered pointless by the free Hoover-derived hydro plant.

i have a question, if you get a conscript warrior from the barbarians can it get promoted to a regular one by atacking other barbarians? and can barbarians heal in your territory? and also attacking other civs troops?sofar it hasnt happened to me that it got promoted

Yes, it's like any other unit once it joins you. It can be promoted (whether attacking barbs or other civ), and also upgraded, and if it gets to elite can even create a great leader (not against barbs, though).

Don't think barbs can heal except in neutral territory.

I got a windows type error in the middle of my game last night. It said something like: "warning maximum number of hyper links full". Something like that. Does anyone know what that is about?

This is probably blazingly obvious... but what do the "DO NOT" symbols (circle with slash) on the tech map mean? And what is required to move to the next age? I find myself researching quickly towards certain techs, but then waste time filling in useless ones until it mysteriously occurs.

Techs with a circle/slash are optional. Discover all the non-optional techs and you move on to the next age. You can always go back and pick them up later or trade for them cheap.

I know cavalry do not have the blitz ability, but apparently my cavalry army does? Would a rider army have blitz ability? Knight army?

How does blitz work when applied to armies?

Thanks

Every army can blitz as long as the slowest unit has at least 2 mp (applies to vanilla/PTW).
No need to ask about a (pure) horsemen army.;)

I get the same error sometimes. Coincidence or not, I find that it often happens when I use the Pedia a lot in little time.
I don't know what to do about it. At least it doesn't screw up your savegames, so if you have AutoSave on, you can just start up the game again and load the latest AutoSave.

I got this message last night. It's the 1st time I've seen this. I'm playing GOTM25 on PTW 1.27f using XP Pro. At the time I was at the diplomatic advisor screen, right clicking to swap Civs in and out to check what was going on (there's a major world war at the moment, great fun!). The message appeared 5 or 6 times. Everything seemed to work fine afterwards, so I didn't even bother reloading.

Is there a way to find out what the population of your civilization is without having to add them up on the calculator Civ 2 had it on game screen,

and is there a demographics screen showing what no. you are in events. I know there is at the end of the game but I like seeing as I am going.

cheers.... definitely prefer the menu system from Civ 2 over 3 - but I spose I will get used to it

Tsargrad: The demographics screen is accessbile via the F11 key. One of the things it'll tell you is population.
