got into the editor, right click on ur starting location, click properties, and for owner, change it to first player instead of a specific civilization.
Doesn't work.
This is straight out of the Editor Help file:

Human Player (Player Properties)

If checked, denotes that the selected player is the human player. Only one player can be set as the human player in a scenario.

But I know TETurkhan got around that, and so did others.

That got your attention, huh? I somehow managed to move my unit command buttons from the bottom of the screen to the inconvenient right side of the screen. How do I get them back to their proper home at the bottom of the screen? Thanks in advance for any assistance. :)

@Reagan
I think it's Tab that toggles the buttons position

@all
If you're first to discover a tech by popping a hut, do you have the "normal" chance to generate an SGL?

Edit: It's actually backspace that toggles the buttons (vide infra)

I think it's delete :p ("Del") but i'm, known to be wrong :mischief:

Yes you do, no matter what Shabba says ;)
The only thing is, the techs you get from huts are the least valuble at that time, and since techs devalue when other civs get them, you are likely to get a tech that someone already has. Hence, there's not much chance of that happening :)

@Gb: Can you get a Tech from a Goody Hut that you are CURRENTLY researching? :)

It's backspace for me (delete removes unit action buttons!).

I see I've already been corrected but I feel it my responsibility to state that it is, in fact, BACKSPACE that toggles the position of the buttons. Tab appears to do nothing. Does anybody know what PageUP and PageDown do?

Regarding SGL's and huts, I ~have~ seen the AI get one (SGL) in 3550 BC which I assume came from a hut.

I'm not Gb but once you get to the end of the ancient age and there's no more free techs, you can pop the one you're researching. If you're scientific and you left philosophy 'til last you can get two free middle ages techs!

Yeah, that's true :( I had not a really good day yesterday... After I posted that, I got Imperialism out of a hut in the Rise of Rome scenario. The last available tech, which I thus was researching. So, there are exceptions to The Rule.

I'm going back to my cave now to crie and wish I was dead.

Thanks to Bartleby and Shabbaman for jumping in and providing answers on "Techs from Goody Huts"! :goodjob:

On the same subject:
Example situation: Say you start researching Construction and it's gonna take 10 turns to discover it. 3 turns later, your wandering unit comes across a Goody Hut. (Research rate stays constant throughout.)

Can you switch to say Monarchy hoping to "Pop" Construction from the Hut AND, let's say you get a free Tech from the HUT, BUT it's NOT Construction........So, you switch back to researching Construction:
Will it now take 7 or 10 turns to research Construction?

Also, can the Tech from a Goody Hut be a NON-mandatory-to-get-to-the-Middle-Ages-Tech, like Republic? :)

I've been popping a ~lot~ of huts lately because I'm attempting to win on chieftain with 5 x 20 k cities + 60 k from rest of empire. I'm pretty sure that I've popped republic during this project... but I can't guarantee you that. The rest of the optional techs are certainly 'poppable'
With changing techs I assume it's the normal situation that you lose your accumulated beakers if you leave the science advisor screen, i.e it'll take 10 turns

I wish to play my own musics while playing civ instead of the civ songs, is there a way to do it ? (I had tried turning off music in civ and open Creative Playcenter to play my musics, but I sense strange Civ3 behaviours then. I hope there is a way to redirect Civ to pick songs from other folders / play songs with different song names. Is there a way ?

Winamp is the way.

If you want to listen to MP3 music while playing Civ, simply run Winamp in the background. It's light, easy to use and highly customizable. And best of all, it's free!
Make sure you download version 2.x though, not those ugly, taking-forever-to-start-up-and-containing-far-too-much-useless-stuff versions 3 and 5.
I can't find any links to version 2.x on the official Winamp site, I guess they try to deny their history, but it's still available on www.oldversion.com

To elaborate on what Bartleby said: You can pop The Republic, but since it is the most expensive tech in the Ancient Age, you are very unlikely to get it (for the reason I posted above) :)

Frollo, (s)he was asking if there was a way to do it whilst in game. And I think there is :) Go into the Sounds --> Build --> whatever era you want folder, and just rename your music to what the music is called in there. You might have to save 'em as .wav files though, and be sure to back up the originals first! (as i've never tried this myself)

So.......it would be very risky to change the "Tech-being-researched" on the off-chance of getting it "Popped" from a Goody Hut as you would ALWAYS "Lose" your accumulated beakers?

(AND, the Tech you're researching, as Gainy bo says, would ALSO have to be the cheapest Tech at that time to have ANY chance of being Popped!?) :)

Indeed. If you change to a different tech, then close the F6/advisor screen, then you will lose all research on whatever tech you switched from. So it's not just risky, it's pointless ;)

Yerp, but the tech which you are researching doesn't apply to this, as long as there are other techs available in that era :) ...I think :hmm: (think = 99.99999% sure)

Not to rub in how PATHETIC Shabbaman's luck is and how much the Civ gods HATE him, but in ROR is it worth researching and switching to Imperialism, or is it smarter to stop at Republic and switch out of Oligarchy then? I noticed that Republic is much better than the Epic game version.

I'm sure it varies by game, but what do you guys usually go with? I've gone for Imperialism both times, the first without realising that Republic had greatly improved stats.

Can a catapult (or other artillery unit, for that matter) bombard from a naval unit? I was just thinking it would make Galleys a lot more useful early on.

I would try to figure this out on my own, but unfortunatley my computer crapped out on me.
