Can a catapult (or other artillery unit, for that matter) bombard from a naval unit? I was just thinking it would make Galleys a lot more useful early on.

Nope, no artillery unit can bombard from a naval unit.
In C3C, the Byzantines' UU is a Dromon(replaces the Galley) which can bombard.

A BIG Welcome to CFC, TheRoadWarrior :band:

(And, I see Gumby78 just answered your question.) :)

Otherwise, a transport with 6 artillery pieces . . .

@Gb: Can you get a Tech from a Goody Hut that you are CURRENTLY researching? :)

Just one last thing on this subject (for the moment).
If you pop Philosophy before anyone else researches it, you get the tech you're currently researching as your free tech (only in C3C tho').

If you seal off an area with goody huts and yet don't pop them yourself until the modern age, can you get atomic theory or electronics?

Some help, please. Recently bought 2nd hand copy of Civ III (previously played II on Playstation) and have patched to 1.29f. I'm sure that the rules state that air units can only be rebased to another city that is within their operational range. However, I seem to be able to rebase fighters to any of my cities on the map, in a single turn, regardless of the range required! Is this right or a bug which is already known about? Thanks.

Curious: In my current game, I have a ton of size 12 cities. On the turn after I finished researching Medicine (and began Sanitation), my domestic advisor started telling me to build hospitals in all my cities -- which I obviously can't do yet. I've never noticed something like this before -- an advisor prompting me to make/build something before I actually can (which doesn't mean it doesn't happen). Is this a regular occurence or just a fluke?

You can rebase anywhere on the globe with an airbase. You can only do strikes (bombers, etc.) within the planes' respective operational range.

I think sanatation allows you to build Hospitals. Did you get it as a free Tech? Do you have the Great library? hmm... that is weird

By airbase, do you mean having an airport in the city? I didn't think they had anything to do with troop movement in CIV III, although I seem to recall they did in CIV II. However, I can do this rebasing between cities without an airport. Is there another city improvement which acts as an airbase within cities? Or a scienctific advance which allows this?

In standard Civ3 (what the cool kids around here seem to call vanilla) you can rebase to any city, carrier or airfield on the map. In Conquests, you can only rebase to a site within three times the operation range of the plane. Airports allow complete repairs in one turn and the production of veteran air units, but are not required for the movement or operation of aircraft.

If the AI comes to me with an offer of Territory map for Territory map and I click "That's it, goodbye" instead of "No way," have I accepted or declined the trade?

You've declined it. And continuously doing that causes the AI attitude to drop over time, IIRC. Not sure on the last, but I usually take the 'no thanks' option, or at least buy their's for a couple of gold. That tends to keep the Ai happy towards me. Or less furious, if you will.

Thanks Turner. I'm usually more tactful myself but I misclicked. Only afterwards I noticed that I had no "gaps" in my knowlege of the tiny Korean empire and I got a little bit worried I'd been ripped off.

I apologise Daranare -- I misread your question (too much skimming... ). Phantom gave a good answer.
