If anyone has far too much time on their hands, edit a catapult to be "amphibious" and see what happens.

Just curious, many people mention it but what has to be included to make the game an epic one.

Doing this the catapult still cannot bombard from a boat.

Curious: In my current game, I have a ton of size 12 cities. On the turn after I finished researching Medicine (and began Sanitation), my domestic advisor started telling me to build hospitals in all my cities -- which I obviously can't do yet. I've never noticed something like this before -- an advisor prompting me to make/build something before I actually can (which doesn't mean it doesn't happen). Is this a regular occurence or just a fluke?

I think the advisor nags to remind you as to why you would research that dead-end tech.

Score-wise building hospitals is a big boon, but not that great from military point of view. AI's will build hospitals ASAP.

An epic is a single player game, played from start at 4000 bc, AFAIK. It just means that it isn't a mod/scenario.

I apologise Daranare -- I misread your question (too much skimming... ). Phantom gave a good answer.
No sweat. It's taking the time to reply which is as much appreciated as the content of it :)

Depends on your game. If you want to build ICBMs, a size 24 city is going to build them a lot faster than a size 12 city.

In standard Civ3 (what the cool kids around here seem to call vanilla) you can rebase to any city, carrier or airfield on the map. In Conquests, you can only rebase to a site within three times the operation range of the plane. Airports allow complete repairs in one turn and the production of veteran air units, but are not required for the movement or operation of aircraft.
Thanks a4phantom. What you say ties up with how the game plays. I would suggest, therefore, that the CIV3 Civilopaedia entry for rebasing is wrong. Confusing but overcomeable.

Can anyone tell me the difference between fortify and sentry? Also what does civil defense do? Thanks for the help!

Hi
Fortify - Puts your unit into a defensive mode. You get an additional defence point. The unit only awakens if attacked, defends it's tile and then goes back to sleep.

sentry - Puts your unit into sleep mode; but he awakens if any AI units (even settlers or workers) comes with in one tile of him. Unit does not return to sleep after being awakened.

Edit: Civil defence gives extra defence points (See Civilopedia) to the city where it is built

Fortify - will give the unit a defensive bouns of 50%.
Sentry – when the unit is in sentry mode it will active when a enemy unit is next it.
Civil Defense - give defensive bonus to unit in that city of 50%

How do you convert .bic (vanilla Civ3) scenarios to .biq (conquests) scenarios?

Getting quite desperate. Who can direct me to Large/small icons for the WWII units from ptw extra folder.

These units include the p51 mustang, German rifleman, anti-tank infantry etc.
Don't need the unit animations, just the large/small icons.

Please help!

PS I have c3c so I don't need the icons for the pacific conquest

Interesting. Thanks for checking that out.

1. Run C3C
2. Select load game
3. Double click on the folder Icon at the top. This will take you up one level. continue to click on the folder Icons until you get to the Vanilla Civ3 directory.
4. Double click on saves in the Vanilla Civ3 directory.
5. Select a .bic file to load.
6. when the .bic finishes loading, save it. C3C will save it as a .biq file. It will also save it in the C3C Saves folder.

Do research bonuses compound? If I have a city doing 15 research a turn, with a library (+50%), a university (+50%), and N's College and C's Observatory (+100% each), does it get 60rpt/400% or 135rpt with the bonuses inflating eachother? Same question for defensive bonuses for terrain, fortification and walls/cities/fortresses/rivers.

Nope, Bonuses don't inflating each other. So it would be 60rpt/400%.
Same thing goes for defensive bonuses.

So other than that they each work best in the city with the most trade, it is not essential to have the three superresearch wonders in the same city. Thankye.

I have 2 questions:

1) Only ocean tiles don't count in the land one owns, right?

2) For domination win, I need 60% of the entire land, and 60% of the entire population, correct?

Thank you.
