Thanks for the concise answer Gainy Bo - that's what i suspected with the fortresses.

Thanks also for the welcome, i've been lurking here for a few weeks. I played CivI (and beat Diety!) on the Amiga many years ago which did a fine job of disrupting my GCSE revision, and now CivIII is doing an equally fine job of ruining my social and working life 10+ years on!!

What do you do to use the downloaded units?

I have a quick question: in the spaceship screen you can click on "assign" to set a city to build a new component. Next to the city names in the list that comes up there are two numbers eg like this "Istanbul 2(2)". I think the one in brackets is the number of turns it will take to build the new part, but what does the first number mean?

Doesn't the AI get upset if I keep going round all the civs each turn just to check what they have, trying if my advisor says that they would accept this or that deal. And then nine times out of ten say 'sorry, nothing'?
I mean I'd get irritated if someone done that to me every turn.

Wow, Mistfit!

Are you getting a percentage of profits from Dianthus, or something?

You're pushing that thin all over the place!

Alright, my turn to ask a question:

How do you insert pictures in between bodies of text? For example...

[BLAH]

[PIC]

[MORE BLAH]

[ANOTHER PIC]

[LAST BLAH]

ForTheEmpire:
1. Upload the picture file (.jpg) to the server
2. Check the list of uploads and select copy shortcut for your picture
3. Enter section 1 text
4. Click on the little yellow sunset button above this box
5. Paste the shortcut into the path box
6. Enter section 2 text

Optionally you could enter all your text, then enter your picture at the end, then cut and paste the code for the picture display where you want it.

Use img tags and put them around the link to the image loacation - like this one (just spare the #-thingies and spaces!)

results in

trek_9.gif

To see the coding in a specific post, you could also hit the quote button.

More coding stuff is here.

What does the (2,4,4) mean?

Regards.

Sure, the slider settings. That makes sense. But, I could not find this little bit of information anywhere.

Thanx.

Does anyone know how antiaircraft batteries work? If I bomb a SAM with an AA rating of 2, does my plane have a 2% chance of being shot down? 20%? 32.4%? Does being stealth give any protection against AA or just against interceptors?

Also, does anyone happen to know what defense rating terrain improvements have vs. bombardament? Are improvements on defensive terrain (hills, mountains, forests) harder to bombard successfully?
