Quick question: how to create attacking planes

Hey all, first post here.

I know I'm able to build flying units that attack enemy cities, but I can't figure out how to do it. If I remember correctly, they were like "fighter jets" or something. I had researched everything necessary (physics, satellites, fusion, ect.), but they still weren't listed in the city build list. I even built an airport in my capital city, thinking maybe that was the problem, but still no luck.

I'm tired of my infantry units battling the enemy's archer units and losing constantly! I guess the enemy had those units fortified on the city for quite a number of turns, making their defense greater. I figure attacking enemy cities with planes would be safer and more efficient.

Thanks :)

Yes, I've researched the flight tech as well.

Sorry, I just realized there was a sticky for questions like this. Can a mod please move this into there? Thanks!

For the first models you need Oil. For the advanced fighter jet oil or aluminium. For the stealth bomber oil AND aluminum.

Sounds like you don't have Oil, without it you can't build Fighters.

Max fortify bonus is just 25%....
Sounds like you are trying to attack with a rather tiny army if archery units are posing problems for your Infantry.

Try attacking with tank instead of infantry. But to build tanks, as well as bombers, you need an oil resource. Remember that it needs to be inside your borders and must have the proper infrastructure like an oil well or an oil rig.

Jet Fighters also need aluminum, remember that if you don't have aluminum or if you have it but don't place a city or a mine on top of it, you won't be able to use it.

If you don't have these resources try buying them through diplomacy or stealing them from your neighbors by capturing their cities next to the resource. Use different types of troops and don't forget siege units - you don't really need Jet Fighters when Artilleries will also do the job.

Sounds like you need oil, as everyone said. However, Artillery is better for attacking cities. Once you get Radio and Oil, you can build Bombers. For me, Bombers largely obsolete Artillery. I know the Oil problem may sound basic, but I think that's it. Remember you need a Fort or Well on the Oil. Unlike Civ3, you have to have the appropriate improvement to get the resource.

Jet Fighters and Stealth Bombers need Oil and Aluminum.

After Scientific Method, see if you have Oil. If you don't, obtain it by force from a neighbor. Trading for it won't work, the AI knows how valuable it is. As one of the game intros says, "(If you don't have Oil, you may be in serious trouble)".
