Quick Questions / Quick Answers

Anyone else finding Montezuma much more of a pain than in previous versions? At this point, I don't even bother playing a game spawned next to him if I'm a civ without an early UU. It's mostly just laziness on my part, but there has yet to be a situation where spawning next to him doesn't involve me spending more time playing defense than expanding. How do you all deal? Seems like I will have to play super nice or risk having a bunch of Jags at my front door.

If you don't want to take him on, don't forward-build toward him, and build a decent military straight away. Montezuma will pick on the weak link. This will prevent rapid expansion, but you should still br able to grow to a decent size.

How can I steal other's civs great work? Venice just stealed my great work of art but I don't see any option to re-steal it.

Set spy as thief in cities which you think have great work. But the chance is very slim plus so many other random thief result(gold, science, great person point). I forget what more thief can do.

Thievery is separate from advanced actions, it's akin to tech steal but instead of tech the spy gets a great work. Doesn't work in capitals however.

When a city is expanding its borders past the initial 6-tile radius, do those new tiles get worked?

How is the duration of a trade route calculated?

(At least it seemed so to me)

I can unlock "Industry" Social Policy even though I am Renaissance Era...when description said that it is unlocked only in Industrial Era. Can anyone please explain why this is? (I am playing as Egypt)

Imperialism, Rationalism and Industry policy trees are locked until you reach Industrial Era OR you get twelve policies, whichever comes first. The same goes for Piety, Statecraft and Aesthetics (Medieval Era or six policies).

A silly question but is it just me that actually feels bad and sympathetic for warmongering? lol

Had a game as Dido where I spawned on a rather small continent with just Indonesia. He was friendly to me the whole time but I wanted to expand, I had no choice but to conquer him. I felt so terrible :(

Same goes with city states when I'm playing Authority. I know that demanding tribute is a good bonus, but I just feel too compassionate haha

However it's a different story when it's against the ******* civs such as Montezuma

This question probably doesn't belong here at all, sorry

Does anyone know what part of this mod adds the monopolies. I am interested in playing with more luxuries and the monopolies, but nothing else. Thanks

How do defensive pacts work? It seems pretty complex with so many different friendships, defensive pacts and wars. Who will automatically be at war with whom?
Currently I (Egypt) have a defensive pact with Brazil and Maya. China declared war on Maya. Maya has defensive pacts with me, Brazil and Assyria . Assyria is at war with China but I am still friendly with China, there is no war between me and China. Brazil also doesn't seem to be at war with China. Why is only Assyria at war with China and not me and Brazil?(Btw earlier Mongol had declared war on Maya, Brazil and Me)
Anyone has any idea how the whole thing works?

Its quite simple:
1) If civA has a DP with civB - anyone who declare war on civA - automatically declares war on civB too.
2) If civA has a DP with civB, and civB has DP with civC than anyone who declares war on civA - automatically declares war on civB too, BUT, DP between civB and civC is no longer active

Yes I understand that. Normally If A,B and C have a 3 way defensive pact(imagine all 3 civs are like close friends and each have DP with other 2 civs), any civ that attacks A, should be automatically at war with B and C, but in my current game ,when D attacked A.....B & C did not be at war with D. Why was that? Is it that defensive pact is a 1 time thing?. Once it is activated then it wont activate again until renewed? Because already earlier E had attacked A and that time B and C went to war with E.

Yes thats right, DP works 50 turns but until the war starts. In your example - once E attacked A,B and C - their threeway DP is executed and they all have to conclude it one more time

Manifest Destiny:

If America "buys" several of my improved tiles, and I denounce him, why am I the bad guy that his "friends" gang up on? Doesn't ring true IMO.
