Hi,
Everytime I start up my computer Quicktime also loads (in the system tray)
I was wondering if anyone knew of any options to stop it from doing this?
I don't see the point in it loading at startup, don't want it to waste resources, etc etc.
I've checked pretty thoroughly, but can't seem to find anything that stops it.

Help would be appreciated :)

I used to know how to do this, but since I disabled it, and don't remember anymore.

As I recall, there is a dropdown when you go to the options....it should be one of those.

Ah, got the bugger

"QuickTime system tray icon
Install QuickTime Task icon in system tray"

bastards trying to confuse me with funny wording! :p
thanks

There are two ways to eliminate any services/programs that open on logging in:

1. Click Start -> Run -> type "msconfig" -> click the tab for "Startup" -> uncheck anything you don't want.

2. Click Start -> Run -> type "regedit" -> navigate to "HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run" also ".../CurrentVersion/RunOnce" -> delete anything that you don't want.

Disable it all you want, QT will just keep coming back.

If you want to actively prevent any programs from modifying the registry as the attempts occur, I suggest Lavasoft's Ad-Watch (it comes bundled with Ad-Aware). Whenever an attempt to modify the registry is logged, it prompts for your confirmation.

Yup, spysweeper also allows me to prevent it from happening. I didn't know Ad Aware did, though. Is that on the free edition also?

Try out the K-lite megacodec pack... it has a realplayer and quciktime player emulator inside that will play through the classic Windows Media Player

My girfriend bought a pepsi once, and got a free i-tune. So she went and got her free song.

When I found out, I had to yank all that garbage right back off. I-tunes was running about 10 Mb of garbage in my system tray... no thank-you.
