R.E.D. WWII: Concepts & Suggestions

I can think of 3 colors for Nazi Germany : Red/Black from the flag, Brown from the party (SA).

Red is for USSR, black is too dark for the map in my opinion, that leave brown.

That saddens me. I've always associated Germany with the dark grey colour they used on uniforms and armour. But, I'm guessing you're leaning towards the political colours.

But that depend highly on your computer skill, if you're not familiar with moving files around in your operating system, wait for a version that will allow simple installation..

I'd probably screw it up. I suppose if I did, reinstallation would fix the problem?

morale is planned but nothing started code-side..

Nice.

You can start writing :D

But before, have a look at what has already been made in TextsUnits.xml and TextsPedia.xml in the "\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\R.E.D. WWII Edition (v 30)\XML" folder.

Will do. Where do I post this text for you guys to access?

I wish I had the skill to help with the coding. I don't even think I could do the art very well. I am an artist (B&W mostly), but when it comes to creating work on the computer, I suck-didly-uck.

If I wanted to learn how to mod, what would you guys suggest?

Here's a sample for your evaluation. If you guys are happy with my style, I would be pleased to be able to contribute to this undertaking.

Panzer VI Tiger

In answer to the powerful Soviet T-34 and KV-1 mechanized units, the Panzerkempfwagon VI Tiger Ausf.E was manufactured by Henschel from 1942 to 1944 and remained in service until the end of the war. It was one of the most powerful tanks used by the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War. Hosting a crew of 5, the Tiger possessed a powerful main gun (88 mm), two secondary guns (7.92 mm MG 34), and thick armour plating (25-110 mm). Unfortunately, the Tiger was held back by its high fuel consumption, limited mobile range, and frequent breakdowns. A fierce weapon on the field, more Tigers were lost due to malfunction and self-destruction then at the hands of the enemy. Despite these flaws, the tiger was still feared by its opponents.

The Tiger was also too wide and heavy for many small bridges; so it was designed to be able to, after a lengthy setup period, ford four meter deep water (two meter for later models).

The first major use of the Tiger was at the Battle of Kursk, but it found use on all German battlefronts, including France, Italy, and North Africa where they dominated in the open terrain despite being deployed in small numbers. A testament to the Tigers durability, even though only 1,347 were ever manufactured, and all before 1944, many remained in action until the end of the war.

As I said, it only depend on which nation get a complete set of material to be added in the game... Poland is another possibility because of a few units already in...

Poland should also get cavalry units, bonus vs infantry, penalty vs tanks.

Darker grey is possible too.

Yes, steam checking files and delete/reinstall mod.

And cleaning the cache folder sometime (that's in the bug report section)

Will do. Where do I post this text for you guys to access?

Kael's guide. Not updated, some things have changed, especially the units graphic defines and the Virtual File System that is not mentioned in it, but it contains the basics.

Good for me, now to be perfect, here is how I'd like it for easier inclusion in the mod:
(use the code tag
code.gif
in "advanced reply" mode to keep the indentation)
Code:

Note the double [NEWLINE] tags at end of line to keep the space between paragraphs in the game pedia.

I'm opening a new thread to post text formatted this way :goodjob:

If I do it up in this format, how do I know if I've done it correct?

Say, for example, I had written this code. How would I know that it was titled PANZERVI and not PANZERVITIGER? Is there a location that I would look to confirm the appropriate term, and to ensure I've spelled the term correctly? Or does it matter?

Code:
		<!--CIVILOPEDIA PANZER VI-->

Thanks,

Poland should also get cavalry units, bonus vs infantry, penalty vs tanks.

I don't think there should be a bonus vs. infantry. Back during World War I, cavalry were ripped to shreads by machinegun fire.

What about introducing mechanized infantry? It could have the same combat stats as infantry with extra movement, and it could be supplied more with personel rather than material.

I was waiting for 3D models. First truck has just been released, more should come, and Mechanized Infantry will be in, yes.

Maybe, for example, Matilda II + Infantry with 48 Combat Strength (average of the two).

They dispersed a whole german infantry brigade. Maybe they get something like 'feared elephant' because it'd have a psychological effect on infantry!

bonus vs infantry, but penalty (more important than bonus) against fortified units ?

also, if added, will be a "regiment" unit.

That sounds good

What would it stack with?
Also, I think 3 :c5moves: and 34 :c5strength:

Here's another subject I want to submit, the promotions:

Currently I feel that some promotions are too powerful, a tank with "shock III" can wipe out an infantry division in 3-4 attacks. Instead of +15, +15, +15 (total +45) for shock I-II-III it should be +5, +10, +15 (total +30) or even something like +8, +7, +5 (total +20).

Also I'd like to reintroduce different promotion for attack or defense.

Should I release a beta with such change for testing ?

I think promotions for attack and defense are a good idea.
Maybe if trenches are not an improvement, trench warfare (+50% when fortified) should be a bonus after cover.

any division unit that doesn't have a linked regiment.

we can have 2 types of "regiment" units: linked (artillery, tank destroyers, assault guns, ...) that must follow the main "division" unit, and "free" that can be used alone (special forces, cavalry, ...)
