The industrial age is upon us! Please make a list of your first five techs to research from the new age, in order.

For an example of what is and is not wanted, peek inside this spoiler. If you know what I'm asking for, don't bother.
Spoiler :
This list is not wanted:

*Flight
*Steam Power
*Espionage
*Robotics
*Nationalism

Flight can't be researched first; you need all of the techs behind it. For espionage, you need nationalism, so nationalism should be before it. Heck, robotics isn't even in the industrial age!

If you'd like flight to be researched, then you should put this list up:

*Steam Power
*Industrialization
*The Cooperation
*Refining
*Steel

All of the techs are in order, and you are on your way to grabbing flight!

My Industrial Age technology wish list:

*Steam Power- RR's should be our fist priority
*Nationalism- i know it's optional, but it will allow MPP's and Trade Embargos (move it off list if we can buy from SCI civ that got it for free)
*Medicine- the first step to hospitals and ToE
*Electricity- now we're ready to grab Scientific Method
*Scientific Method- ToE  A must need wonder
*Sanitation- (if nationalism is moved off the list) get hospitals to get our cities past size 12

Steam Power > Medecine > Electricity > Scientific Method > (if enough time before the ToE build completes: Industrialisation > ) Free Tech 1: Atomic Theory > Free Tech 2: Electronics > (if we didn't get it earlier or can't trade for it: Industrialisation > ) Replaceable Parts.

Buy Nationalism, the AI is bound to research that. Not convinced we'll need Sanitation - remember the plan is to have lots of cities all with Library, Temple etc rather than a few big cities, we can pick it up if necessary when it becomes available through trade or maybe research it later if the AI doesn't.

Remember that the ToE->Electronics path is now a dead end path. (not that it's gonna stop a lot of gamers who want that wonder...)

i disagree. i don't see why we shouldn't try to get our core cities to size 12+ through pure Fantannian ingeunity quickly, rather than buying sub-par AI ripoffs off the same tech, when we have some extra cash on hand.

Steam Power is the only Industrial Age tech I'd put any effort into researching. After we do that, I'd go the lone scientist route towards Sanitation. We don't need anything beyond Steam Power to achieve our cultural victory (we don't even need Steam Power, though rails do increase productivity, and having a railnet helps hugely with defense). I'd put all the money saved on research into buying culture.

That's a good idea Bertie. I'm sure we could grab Hoover and TOE along with replaceable parts. Anything beyond that is unneeded.

Steam Power will help us with our defence of our empire as well as increasing productivity and growth, otherwise I agree with Bertie, go slow on everything else, if we want to keep researching, we should be able to do so at a pace commensurate to the AI even at a lower slider level.

Without Factories (Industrialisation), Hoover is just a waste of shields.

I think these would be good. These are in Alphabetical order. Electricity, Industrialization, Nationalism, Scientific Method, and Steam Power. I have put in an optional tech, because it will mean that we get a better defender and we can now mobilise for war. The other are pretty straight forward.

Ditto Bertie. We'll need about 550 gold per totally corrupt town just to rush a temple and a lib. For 100 towns that's 55K gold. We need to use our money where it's needed.

We know steam power. What do all of your lists look like now?

Mine:
*Electricity
*Replaceable Parts
*Industrialization
*Medicine
*Scientific Method

And add onto that the gold that's wasted because we have to PAY for those two improvements... That's the downside.
