Shiroifushicho submitted a new resource:

Radiant Samurais and Monks - Samurai buff with new promotion tree, also few Warrior monk tweak and buff.

On the first hand, this mod buffs, adds more gameplay for Samurai Unit by giving it a new unique and powerful promotion tree.

Inspired by the Warrior monk already existing unique promotion tree, it will lead you on an experience thirst road so your samurai become able to deploy its full power and become a blade master. But to keep game balance and keep difficulty fun, Samurai unit cost and maintenance have been drasticly increased...

Code :

- Samurai is not replacing any other unit.
- NERF 1 : Samurai can't be upgraded into musketman or any other more advanced unit.
- NERF 2 : Samurai can't be upgraded from swordman or any other older unit.

Compatibility :

- With "Steel and thunder : Unit expansion", you need to desactivate a specific line to prevent samurai being replacing the...

Well the downside are getting stronger for this 2.0 : Can't be upgraded from & into any units (your samurai will remain samurai till end of game) so it's a loss of prod unless you train them hard.
50 raw str is a bit above average (48 str was samurai vanilla, 45 some equally around unique units of other countries, like mamluk) but considering their strong required prod and maintenance cost, it's clearly not. When it starts, it's like you produced 2 units of vanilla 40~ strengh for just +10. Building 2 units with 40str would have been better at this time, but again if you train them well, prevent them to die, they will grow and finally reach the strengh of a unit that can handle 2 x 50 str alone (50 + 10 + 15 = 75 str, and 75 str is defeatable with 2 x 50's). A full promoted samurai like this will require lot of time invested & the numerous sweaty fights so ... it's a bit like a hero. Later on, you will want to even make a corps or army with them to sustain again modern units.
With the many test i ran, it wasn't OP. Especially starting from king difficulty and greater. (i admit that in difficulty below prince, this mod is not recommended, since you even get more fight free bonuses). It's perfect for emperor difficulty (really hard and funny to keep them alive).

I had awesome fun to make this mod, i think i could do that with more unique units ... but in the other hand i will quickly run out of diffferent ideas for unique promotions or they will be too hard for me to code properly.
Also these unique promotion trees mean the units can't be upgraded into/from units without creating some promotion glitchs/bugs. I don't know if players are ready to see all of their unique units with no upgrade possibility because of their unique and fun promotion tree.
 
I never supported that option of a unit being upgrade to something else..
I must say again its a piece of work you got here... I wish I could help you
from the sounds the movement and all icons...
i wanna see more of your work!

BTW - I am a software programmer too.. java the most if you need a hand :)

Minor Update

V2.2 is out ! (minor Update)

-Small Barracks fix.
Now the +25% bonus experience will also apply for samurai despite of their new promotion tree. (if you find any other issue like this one in the game, don't hesitate to poke me about it).

-Even better Colors on promotion tree icons (more color profoundness). And to prepare these icons for my next incoming mod.

-Small graphic fixes.

will you extend your work to more units? or other civilizations?

Im preparing something really nice since a long time : D Im in the testing phase and it will last a long time.
Can't say more im sorry xD (this doesn't involve new units, but more something with promotions)

First Volley of nerfs

Obviously my new samurai is little much too much powerful ! Don't worry im doing these slightly and with lot of testings. It's important to keep our game fun.

- Promotions rearranged. Niten ichi ryu style (3 fold attack) has moved to ultimate (lvl 4 promotion).

- Promotion prereqs onto both lvl 3 promotions less permissive. To reach "Meikyo Shisui" you mandatory need "Akuma armors" (first combat strengh bonus) promotion. To reach "Masamune Blades" you mandatory need "Wind slicer" (movement...

3.0 Version

- Warrior Monks are not part of this mod anymore. Mod was renamed "Radiant Samurais". If you want a nice mod for Monks, i suggest you to see my other mod called "Radiant Better Unit Promotions"

- Samurai Unit base Combat strengh brought back to 50. (they deserve it, because of the cost and maintenance and to help getting xp with dying less vs 45 and 48 units).

- Samurai Unit base movement nerfed from 3 to 2. (the only way to have a nice mobility will be the related promotion)...
