I am having radom crashes to the Windows Desktop. I am not having any of the slow game play or video or video or game rendering problems that I have seen here. This crash problem appears to be similar to one I saw in Civ III.
I have been saving often and then restoring. The game does not crash in the same spot after the game is restarted.

My system

3.0 GHZ P4
ASUS MB 1 GB RAM
Win2K Sp4
NVidia 6800 GT 256 MB (AGP) withj latest driver.

I have the v1.52 patch (patched immediately after installed game from new) and also get CTDs, and complete freeze ups with no error messages, all completely random as well. There are times I can play for a very long time with no problems, smooth (very fast) map scrolling, and other times I need to reboot every 10 minutes.
My system:
Athlon64 4000+, 2G Ram, GeForce 7800GTX, all latest drivers.

Yep I have the patch 1.52

A clean install - with manual deleting particularly the hidden game cache files - has solved many hassles, patching over existing hidden cache files can cause issues

Before Patching
Windows add/remove in control panel remove Civ - success or failed do the following

Delete the Civ IV Directories in:

- Programs/Firaxis
- My Documents / My Games
- C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\My Games\Civilization IV\ Its a hidden directory if not seen just check you have "show hidden files" switched on

Load from discs
Load Patch V1.52

If still issues - post again with your Dxdiag file

(Dxdiag - Start Button - click - choose run - type dxdiag - hit enter - wait a min - select save all information - post using 'advanced' button below)

I have the same problem with random crashes, whenever I start the game it almost always crashes two or three times within fifteen minutes. The longest it will go without a CTD is about thirty minutes. THe game plays fine for a while, no slow downs or graphical errors, but it constantly crashes and occasionally spontaneously reboots.

I did the Directx update and turned off the advanced settings that were suggested and did a fresh install, removing every reference I could find to the program. After all that it crashed immediately when I started the game after installing the patch.

My system is a AMD 2800, Geforce 6600GT, 1GB ram, drivers all updated

I'm at my wits end with this thing any help is appreciated.

Heres my dxdiag if it helps
