Well, no thread on this shows up in the search feature, so here goes. Has anyone picked heard of a new game to be released in Oct called 'Rage'? I just watched the video trailer for it last night, and here was my impression:

Its a Fallout 3 knockoff. Post-apocalyptic shooter/RPG. Only, instead of nuclear war, the world was destroyed by an asteroid. And instead of being a vault dweller coming out into the world, you come out of a kind of a rescue pod ejected out of what appears to have been a space station in orbit. Same kind of premise then ensues. Various factions want you for your 'skills', and there is a rebel force fighting some group in power. Rebels are ill equipped and the group is charged has high tech futuristic weaponry.

Sound familar?

Anyway, the graphics from it actually looked pretty good as did the gameplay. Google it up and take a look and tell me what you think.

I'm not interested in it, but it looks like id put a lot of effort into (a couple of years, I think) to make it original and nice looking. Gameplay-wise, I think it's Borderlands meets Fallout with a bit of a driving game in it.

It looks a lot like Borderlands, I might get it. My friend has been going on about it for years, saying it's been in production for ages now and it's going to be huge. I don't know if he's right or not, but if so then I'll get it. I don't think it looks like Fallout at all though (from the gameplay trailer I saw).

It has about as much in common with Fallout as every other post-apocalyptic setting. Mostly it looks like they took a lot of inspiration from Borderlands but with brighter colour scheme. I hope it turns out to be really good but I won't pick it up for a while, probably not until its bundled with all of its DLC.

I want it (Mostly because I'm an id fanatic) but I really can't afford it and my entire Christmas is being eaten up by a laptop. :(

I would prefer getting the PC version as id games have never been very good on consoles can't wait for Doom 4 however..

IDK, but it definitely has a Fallout vibe to me.

Link to video.

Kind of makes me want a Fallout 4 with this engine.

Its the "post apopcalyptic wasteland" feel. Not a "Fallout 3" feel. You're just relating it to Fallout because that is what is most familiar to you that uses a setting like this. Metro 2033 and aprts of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games have a similar feeling too (especially in the urban areas).

That gameplay still looks sweet though.

Uhm...Fallout 3 = post apopcaltyptic. Like I pointed out your a new person in a wasteland of interest to several factions. The only difference in this is you come from orbit as opposed to a vault. To me, the storyline is quite close to the Falllout premise with just a few cosmetic changes.

I think Rage looks pretty cool actually - wasn't really interested in it to start with but I'll probably pick it up. I like open world shooters ala Stalker and Far Cry 2 and this looks cut from a similar kind of mould. So yeah I hope/expect it to be good.

I think there will be a big difference in gameplay.. and graphics.. Fallout is more a rpg in first person while Rage seems to be a fps with rpg elements. I will probably be a fun actionfilled game that runs smoothly and looks great in an apocalyptic environment, but I doubt it will be very similar to Fallout.

I probably won't get it. Bf3 seems more interesting to me for action.

Looks absolutely stunning and I am a huge fan of post nuclear settings (love the original Fallouts)

I hope the gameplay will turn out to be good as well. As long as they don't overuse cheap scare tactics like they did in Doom 3 I'll buy it.

It isn't an open world, and while it's only been out for like a day initial impressions don't seem great. Apparently it involves a lot of "go shoot your way through this area to do or get this menial task or item for me" and has very bad texture popping (textures take a long time to load). It kind of sounds like Borderlands, but not as good. Still waiting for better/more in depth stuff about it though.

I've been hearing some not-so-great things about it. Another consolitis sufferer it appears. I hope id gets their stuff together for Doom 4.
