i cant stand the way railroads work. For one thing, the infinite movement makes defence too easy in an empire spread over a large area.
this is unrealistic- just look at Russia's slow mobilisation in the two world wars, in comparison with France.
ok so not every square mile of Russia was covered in railroads,, but hey...
that brings me on to my next point:
the way in which your empire gets completely covered in railroads. if they only gave a movement bonus rather that extra shields+food then they would not be a nessecity.
what was wrong with the old system of irrigation and then farms?

the point being:
Can anybody who is familiar with the editor find a way of changing the effects of railroads?
i have only basic knowledge of changing rules and civs without the game crashing.

please contribute any ideas

There seems to be no possible way to change the effects of roads or railroads. If you wanted to make them a little more strategically important, you could increase the build time, require extra tech (or a later tech), and/or make citizens consume less food and produce more in order to compensate for the effects.

Why is everyone complaining about the realism of this game? That what it is a game. It took me nearly 2000 years to buit the Pyramids, when it took the real Ancient Eqyptians only 20 years or so. Or the fact that only 4 of the 16 Civs date back to anywhere near 4000 bc. And that's just naming a few, I can go on and on. It a games! If you don't like infinite railroad movement, there is alway Call to Power. Railroads only give you 5 moves. I, too, had hope for the best of both worlds, but we will have to wait for civ4 to see if that will dreams will come true.
