Rallying call for all interested: Colonisation of the Moon mod!

Okay. Charter Civics, Ideology, Government, Foreign Policy, Economics, Education, and Special? Sound good?

A couple weeks? I think if you guys ramble off the first 7-10 here then we can have an open brainstorm and the floodgates will open up! If Warsong can give us believable early techs I think our entire direction will be solid and that's the base we need.

Tsk, tsk... Don't rush things, Woodelf 8). We still have a lot of mechanics to consider. Not to mention that Warsong has less time then me to devote to this project, so we only have limited daily bandwidth.

That set of civics sounds good to me, I'll run them by Warsong, too. Not sure we really need education, though... I mean how is our education "system" going to change over the course of the mod? Why won't everyone simply use "the best" all the time? 8).

Well, this is not really relevent, if we stick with a flat power grid model, but... If we wanted to make Fab plants produce power grid expansion at a certain rate (like culture works now), has anyone considered the possibility of making 4 commerce types? It seems like it might well be possible within the engine.

4 commerce types seems likely to be possible, but also can we use culture for anything else? I simply don't see the need for it.

Sorry, I won't rush too much, but once I sink my teeth into something, well....

Educational civic possibilities:

None - no cost, -1 beaker
Apprentice - low cost, +1 beaker
Public - low cost, +1 beaker, 1/2 cost public schools
Specialized - medium cost, medium returns
Mind-Machine Interface - high cost, high returns, morale problems?

Just some real quick ideas. You can make them a bit different, but if one were to go that column might be it or combined with Special.

Well, we can keep it in for the nonce, but I suspect education will become one of those "YES" things, where you just always want the best one.

Also, no one outside our team is going to make slides and splash graphics for us. Actually, that's something IVZanIV might be able to do for us. Make popupinfo windows. Mix of graphics and python--very time consuming and very modularized.

I will look into how easy it is to make a new splash screen next week. The only major difficulty I can think of will be to make it work properly on different resolutions.

@ belizan
take all the time you guys need with the tech tree.

The only files that should be worked on right now is graphics stuff until the tech tree, buildings etc. are well laid out.

Also, are we sticking with the 3 tech trees for each type of leader?

I certianly hope so. :) The details of this can be ironed out later once we have a basic tech tree.

Victory conditions should be conquest, domination, and definately spaceship to take us to Mars or maybe a planet in a different solar system.

BTW, some other things. Warsong says that you can get Nitrogen from the lunar soil via a chemical process (much like oxygen), so all that crazy harvest the atmostphere, harvest a comet stuff is... not necessary for that purpose. Keep it in the ideas list, though Woodelf, I want to get Warsong's reaction. If he's like me, and I know he is, it will potentially give him other ideas.

He also said that Track Vehicles are damn near impossible on the Moon, because of the moving parts/dust issue, and therein should be removed entirely. Instead wheeled rovers and hovers vehicles like our skiff (which he called a Lunar Ground Effect Vehicle) should be the order of the day.

We're still arguing about nukes 8).

New Question: Anyone know how to take food production away from the city square?

I think its not possible to take away the food production. Food Production is not a modifyable value, its a result of the following parameters, which you can adjust :
- Terrain Type : CyPlot.setTerrainType(TerrainType eNewValue, BOOL bRecalculate, BOOL bRebuildGraphics)
- Feature Type : CyPlot.setFeatureType(FeatureType eNewValue, INT iVariety)
- Improvement Type : CyPlot.setImprovementType(ImprovementType eNewValue)
- Route Type : CyPlot.setRouteType(RouteType eNewValue)

Or did I misunderstand you?

It's also an economic matter. What would be more profitable once you have the means? Kicking a 'roid/comet with an abundance of volatiles in orbit and mine it for the rest of eternity or keep on scraping with what is available on the moon and use a problably energy-intensive procedure to get meager results.

In the end it comes down to the amount needed by the Lunies. Wouldn't recommend the process Warsong gave for putting enough nitrogen in Mars' atmosphere making it breathable AND make the soil fertile for plantlife.

What is the IM System supposed to represent?

While I'm asking, what about the Distribution Net?

IM system: no idea.

Distribution net could be a prerequisite tech for making maglev tubes? But there are cooler sounding names for that.
