Rallying call for all interested: Colonisation of the Moon mod!

didnt work either... damn waht am i doing wrong

im putting it in the firaxi/civ4/mods/ directory should i be using mydocs/mygames/MODS ???

So you extracted the new file into the Mods directory and it didn't work?

That's odd. I sent the same file to JBG and it worked. What errors are you getting? You should get all the way to "Lunar Mod" after Loading it. There are some errrors on the way to getting the map started, but the game still plays.

And what does 'Allocating zero or less memory in CvXMLLoadUtility::SetVariableListTagPair' mean? Something to do with my LeaderHeadInfos XML...

ooh, what a lot of those errors did i have with my fantasy civ pack :)
i'm not completely sure, but i think you have forgotten a <LeaderHeadInfo> or </LeaderHeadInfo> tag.

not completely sure if this is the solution

wait, do i have to load a scenario? ive just been startign a custom game doh thats probably it trying...

no, no scenario i get to the Moon mod screen and can start games, theyre just normal games, civpedia is normal too hm

If you go Advanced, then Load a Mod, select Lunar Mod you should get back to where you go single player, custom game. Once you get here the Civilopedia should be Lunar. :)

That should work.

@haarbal - Those errors JBG mentioned come from getting too many errors in the beginning of loading. The damned Civ4 engine gets testing about one minor error and then starts creating things that look like that even when there isn't a problem! My civics issues from yesterday had nothing to do with civics, but earlier simpler problems. :( Many thanks to Kael for helping me figure that out!

Thats what ive been doing, but it doesnt appear to actually load anything different, just puts the word Moon in upperright of main screen

Moon?

Did you make a folder named "Moon" and extract this into it? I wouldn't do that if you did.

Simply extract this into:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods

The Lunar Mod folder should get made and all should be well in the world. :D

Thats what I've got, the mod is called Moon - when i go to load mod thats the mods name

EDIT DOH

ive been putting my art in a folder called moon under mods in my games DOUBLE DOH

That's so bizarre it's scary. matthewv had a folder called Colonize the Moon, but the 1.7 meg file I emailed you is called Lunar Mod.

Are there Assets; art, python, and xml subfolders?

I'm getting confused and admittedly this has been a real confusing weekend!

Glad you figured it out and I'm not insane! :D

Yeah, we've got hammering out to do, but what a great start!

I actually like how we get errors, this way we fill in the blanks and add what we need, I guess ill throw together some placeholderish terrain unless matthew sent you his, should I change any XMLs? I think we need a clear pipeline of what goes in the official copy, dont want 8 different mod variants running around competing so you are de facto master copy holder right now

I have no problem with people sending me modified XML files and me throwing them together into the Mod.

And something that we'll eventually need to deal with is Religion. We can't delete it so we'll have to make it work.

We need to open up the discussion to what everyone, even lurkers, thinks we should do about it.

A couple of ideas:

1 - Make religion a form of government. We have lots of differing types of governing bodies represented.
2 - Make religion an ideology. Basically we could have Gaian-type, rape the moon type, ect.
3 - actual religions?
4 - ???????

I vote ideology, religion model can transfer well to this, and it would give the game effect we want ie civs with same ideology work well together, using traditional religions on the moon is anachronistic as agencies and corps dont have official religions, plus in the modern era the only religion that actually makes war on other religions isnt likely to build a colony on the moon (no offense here but it seems some religious fanatics are too busy burning and smashing things attempt something as complex as creating a permanent foothold on the moon)

so I like the ideology idea, i also like the idea that you can create a unit that will do the opposite missionary, eg stamp out unwated ideologies, you can call them something different for each ideology or just call it something generic like, re-education instructor or something haha thats a little sinister.

anyways going to do some terraining

Keep us informed on your terraining.

@matthewv - send me a PM with your email sometime so I can send you the file. :)

have the dds's done, except cratered grids because its damn near impossible to do maybe ill do it later, for now no grids on cratered, what XML do i change to use the new DDS graphics?

ok i figured it out but eww its ugly, they are not blending together, just blocks of each... well i guess matthew figured it out and he can help

Look in the ArtDefines_Terrain xml file and the Civ4TerrainInfo file. In the latter the old grass, plains, ect are renamed as maria basalt, dust plains, ect. In the ArtDefines file you'll see that they will look for the dds file somehwere in here:

<Path>Art/Terrain/Textures/GrassBlend.dds</Path>
<Detail>Art/Terrain/Textures/GrassDETAIL.dds</Detail>
<Button>,Art/Interface/Buttons/BaseTerrain/Grassland.dds,Art/Interface/Buttons/BaseTerrain_TerrainFeatures_Atlas.dds,3,1</Button>

Maybe that will put you on the right track? But you shouldn't need to edit any XML for this since matthew already did.

Come on matthew! Did he say he was going to be offline for 24 hours or was that JBG at one point?
