I just finished a standard map game with 5 civs left -- I took out 3 other civs between about 1000BC and 1500AD. Got tired of that so switched to a space race win / culture.

When I played Civ 3, I was able to take over cities by culture relatively easily. Seems a lot harder in Civ 4, as not one takeover took place, even though I tried (build border cities with tons of culture.)

AH well.

Anyway, I alt-tabbed out of Civ4 today (after buying 512MB more ram for a total of 1GIG), and it was using 732MB of ram. Wow!

Hopefully a GIG of ram is enough to play a massive epic game ;)

there are two possibilities:

1. there's a memory leak

2. they vastly underestimated the system reqs. for this game.

People with as much as 3.5GB RAM have been having the same problem.

I dunno, I played standard sized map and started noticing slowdowns on a Athlon XP 3200 with a 128 meg vid card and a gig of RAM. I'm taking it for granted that big maps are not for me.

By the way, I've taken over cities culturally before quite a few times and I've only played a few games. It's turning out to be a favorite way of mine to get territory and power. If you have open borders, try sending misisonaries in to get cities to convert. This should make it easier.

I find theaters especially powerful. Be sure you're doing research that pays off culturally sometimes.

Also, sometimes you're just against a culture or city that is just as strong as yours, and it's a no go. That doesn't mean a weaker city won't fall, though.
