I am playing a game on King level. I'm on a Pangaea map, on top and my neighbor is Greece to the south and there are 3 city states around me which I am allies with. All was well with Greece I.E. open borders, trading goods, friendship etc... I've not attacked anyone, nor have I done anything negative for that matter. Out of the blue Greece denounces me...

Explain that one... Could it be I made a trade pact or a friendship with someone else? If that is the case I wish there was a way to view diplomatic statuses between other nations.

Well its alexander he has a low loyolty rating So he BACKSTABT YOU

You where obiously winning the game or taking his city states but he didn't showed that he didn't liked it.
Alexander has a high victory competivity so be on you're guard

I allways see alexander as a potential war ally IF I am warmonger myself but never see him as a friend

I rant alot in this forum about the weak diplomacy but this is actually normal its a warmonger that has a low loyolty

Did you mouseover the "friendly" or other comment against his name, on top right, to see what is in red? I suspect he coveted your lands, and didn't like you competing for the same CSs.

However, Alexander needs little reason to backstab, as it's in his nature, as apocalypse105 said, never trust him.

They hate you because you were playing the game.
They can hate you for building wonders, having a large army, having a tinny army, having your random placed capital somwhere they consider theirs, beeing strong, beeing weak...

AI Denouements are never random; you've always done something that AI didn't like:

Here is the list:

1. "Land envy" Your territory is too close. Note that it is usually the case that your AI closet neighbor has land envy from turn 1.

2. "Wonder envy" They had apparently started a Great Wonder when you completed the same one.

3. "City state envy" They are friends with one of the city states you have reached ally status with; particularly if the city state is closer to their capital than yours.

4. "Chain Denouement" They are friendly too an AI that Denounced you. (But yup; if you DOF someone an AI doesn't like, this AI won't won't like it either)

5. "War mongler Denoucement" If you've DOWed city states and/or removed a player from the game by taking over their last city [including a City State]

In your case, I'm guessing City State envy but could also have been Land envy.

there are plenty of times where the ai denouncements are random, I and mony others have had it happen many times.

On my very first full playthrough, on settler, not too far into the game, the Ottoman leader(whatever his name is)denounced me, and he was a good ways away from me.

In any other game something like this would be a bug, here it's a feature.

You could have known this if you'd dealt with Alex before, basically, to understand the AI's you have to play around 50 games or look at a couple of spreadsheets, what just happened was wat the devs intended though, a completely unpredictable AI to make it look more realistic.
Like how England backstabbed the US during the Iraq war because their army was out of position and they had been chain denounced, and ofcourse Tony Blair was coveting their lands.

I love this post it is dead on.

You can check the relationships civs have with other civs by clicking on the right-most tab on the large Diplomacy screen (from the menu which appears when you click the scroll: the left-most button top right of the main screen). It doesn't give much detail, but you can tell who is friendly with whom and who is at war.

I thinx the problem with civ 5 diplomacy its to sensetive It seams only to work if I am playing or a large map where they don't covet my land directly

Yes if this forum didn't exist people wouldn't even know about the warmonger penalty and why they get it and will allways be like why am i a warmonger?
