RAT-02- Deity

our troops are a little scattered, to me it looks as if it would be better to sign peace for this moment, then get back at them sooner or later.
but Shevek, it's your choice whether to press on.
also, you are right, this is now 1 turn short, so Shevek, go ahead play 11 turns.

Roster

Babylon land 3 bowmen south of Molde :eek:

3. 310 BC
make peace with Babylon straight up
lux needs to go up as war happiness ends
our war is not going well, Alesund now surrounded by 3 horses, 4 archers and some spears
re-inforcement difficult as the spears are sitting on the mountains blocking the way in
but cannot gain anything in peace treaty, decide to hold out some longer

Braveheart dies :sad:

6. 250BC
attack on Antalya
out of 5 cats 3 hit
elite sword dies, does not even scratch 2hp spear :cry:

reg sword kills spear but redlines, but now we are out of troops and 1 spear left :cry:

attack Riza - sword kills spear
archer kills archer, Riza destroyed

we are at least 5 techs behind the AIs, only Zulu know as little as we do
trading time:
buy Monotheism from China for 18gpt + 885g
Monotheism + 5g to Rome for Republic, saves us 35 turns on own research
monotheisn + 13gpt to America for engineering
I do not know if we could revolt now?? we have a lot of per turn payment and when in anarchy we do not earn money, I will leave it for the next player as I am not sure :confused:

IT
Bergen sword -> worker
Copenhagen spear -> sword

8. 210 BC
Babylon and China have Feudalism, everyone else is up monarchy (which we do not need), Zulus are down polytheism and republic but have nothing to trade
I guess some building up is now in order

IT
Osman is parading his troops around Bodo, I count 14 horses, 4 archers and a couple of spears on route east
Stockholm worker -> court

11. 150 BC
nothing

OK, our war did not entirely go as hoped.
But we are not too badly off either as we have caught up in techs.
We need to become a republic asap. I should have revolted but I am not sure what happens with the per-turn payments. We must not endanger our rep.

buy ivory for incense from Persia, they turn polite
hope the route is safe
guess we can't afford anarchy, unless we have a lot of cash left. now we need to get invention asap to start hammering coastal towns

Roster
ThERat

That happened to me in Rat01.

Second post down.

I'll test what will happen and then play my turn.

I defenitely do not want any exploit such as gpt will be just cancelled. This wouldn't be in the spirit of the game. so, please only revolt if we can afford it. we pay 36gpt if i read correctly, with around 7 turns anarchy we need to have around 300g left over. If we do then go ahead and revolt.

Who me :mischief:
I would not use an exploit like this, i'm just curious about what will happen from a game mechanics standpoint and remembered the last game when I made that mistake.

If I was to hold a revolution I would hire enough tax collecters to balance the cost of the gpt deals, or even make a profit.

Do we want to be a republic before and during our warlike 'zerk phase? Do we have archers to upgrade when invention comes in?

Good point, do we want Republic or Monarchy?

I'm thinking Monarchy would be better but thats just me.

given that we do have so little luxuries, maybe it is better to go for monarchy first.
we also have almost no archer which could be upgraded later. maybe we should start on that as well.

zzz

Preturn 150BC:
Realize we don't even have Monarchy, hold off revolution until we do.
We are paying 31gpt to others civs and have 113 gold for all that are interested.

Turn 1 130BC:
Aarhus Spear->Archer
Lower Lux to 0

Turn 2 110BC:
Nothing

IBT:
America Babylon vs Rome

Turn 4 70BC:
Reykjavik Spear->Trebuchet

Turn 5 50BC:
Trondheim Market->Archer
Oslo Spear->Archer

IBT:
China demands Incense, the trade route through Persia, gives in
What is this, Rome demands 27 gold, gives it

Turn 6 30BC:
Hareid Warrior->Court
Copenhagen Archer->Archer
Stavanger Harbor->Temple
Persia has Invention

Turn 7 10BC:
Trondheim Archer->Archer
Few civs got Invention and Theology, still can't buy Monarchy

IBT:
Ottoman and Zulu Peace

Turn 8 10AD:
Aarhus Archer->Archer

Turn 9 30AD:
Trondheim Archer->Archer

Turn 10 50AD:
Nothing

Notes:
We now have some archers to upgrade if we can ever get to Invention
If we went for republic now our unit costs would bankrupt us.
When the Incense comes back from China trade it away to someone like China or disconnect it, its better than losing it again.

in hindsight, maybe going for GLib would have been better, well too late already, get to invention and then grab land by taking out cities...AK is up, myself on deck

@ team - need some strategic guidance. We need Fuedalism and Invention for zerks. our gpt is +10 with zero research. We have one native lux. The war with Osman didn't gain much. We have no navy to carry the zerk raiders. Trading possibilities suck. Things look bleak. After looking at the save, I think we have one war in us. Who is the target and why? More lux? More land? More resources? I think we should hit Rome in the next 40 turns, but it doesn't appear we have the strength to do so. Holding for advice.

we could have gotten the Glib, but after a team discussion, a war was recommended and it turned out to be not really that great to put it mildly. Somebody across the Ocean demanded and declared since we refused.
It would have been better to wait for the Glib and get invention, well too late already. Why is our income that low

@ team - if you don't post, you'll have to live with idiot results. :) Play tonight or tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, wanted to give all time for input.

trebs, archers and save money for upgrades. Disband reg warriors when needed to keep positive cash flow. Sell our excess incense when possible. Since we don't have a navy will either need to build one or go after ottomans again.

my 0.02 - don't know if it's worth that much

We have so many gold payments because I tried to catch up on tech on my turn.
I did not think we could wait as some 2fer opportunities offered themselves and so we got much more than we actually paid for. These windows are not open too long, usually.
I did assume we wanted to be a republic (should have ask and not assumed :blush: ). So I got that, too.
But it seems that monarchy might suit us better due to unit costs (has that been calculated?)
Either way we need to have a revolution as soon as we can afford to.
Are we sure we do not want to go for republic????
Otherwise I would opt for some infra building to get our cities growing and income up. Build some archers (not too many as they are expensive to upgrade and we do not have much money anyway).
Also 1 or 2 gallays could be send exploring. We do not even know the north of Ottomans land.

Good luck, Admiral.

Oh, before I forget to mention it, I think Osman is currently too strong for us to take on and will be for quite a while, I guess.
I did count at least 16 horses trampling through our territory to get at Zulu (not counting archers, spears and swords). He will have more on the other side. The horses were one reason, I believe, that our war failed. Too fast, too many.
Just let's bear in mind that he has them (probably 20+) and that he is likely to upgrade them to knights soon.

So again my advise to play it defensively at the moment and get our economy going.
And then think about picking the next foe.

I bit the buleet and revolted.

Preflight: After due consideration, decide Shevek is correct. We should go republic now and not monarchy at some unspecified time when we get it. Given our size, don't think we'll have to worry about the AI declaring. With Rep. we'll get the reverse WW. Revolt, draw a 7 turn anarchy. we have 229g. less deals that cost us 31 gpt, we'll come out of anarchy with gold to spare :lol:

Hammi demanded 25g after 110, said no. No war.

Shaka demanded Mono after 190, he declared.

Never have I done so little in one set. If you want to see something scary, hit F7.
